Admiring the new Honor Society wall plaque are Kathleen Brunozzi, Ingrid Swanson lrow lt, laurene Lagonegro, Cathryn Cicconi, Dolores Forgensi lrow 21, Lawrence Sullivan, Thomas Burke, Daniel Skizim, August Moretti, and Timothy McGill, CHESS CLUB Notre Dame's fledgling Chess Club, under the leadership of president Joseph Colletta, and moderator Sister M. Dorothy, increased its membership and treasury during a very successful year. Members ran the concession stand during a home football game and used the profits to purchase a chess set modeled after that of Rome. The Chess Club is proud of the fact that it deals in quality and not quantity. The members are few but proud of the fact that they play the game of kings. Concentration is an important part of the game, as illustrated by Chess Club members Joseph Miller, Albert Zinn, Thomas Dunn, Joseph Coletta, and Edward Rauch. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Knowledge, character, leddership and service, these are the present and future goals of all National Honor Society mem- bers. ln accordance with the National Honor Society pledge, members promise to give of their time and energy to make their ideals, their ideals of their life. The National Honor Society consists of sophomores, iuniors, and seniors with scholastic averages of 887. or better. By January of their senior year, members who possess a 907. average and receive ap- proval by the whole faculty are inducted into the National chapter. Through the devoted interest of moder- ator Sister M. Joachim, members were fortunate this year to have guest speakers Mr. Thomas Reidy, a teacher at Horse- heads High School, and Mr. Terrance O'Herran, a N. D. Alumnus and former Community Ambassador to India. On February 7, twenty-eight seniors were formally inducted. At the formal in- duction ceremony, Mr. Tessier cited the fact that former Society members were well equipped to take their places in today's complex world and exemplified well-rounded Notre Dame alumni. Guest speaker, Dr. Charles Davis, who is the superintendent of the Elmira School Dis- trict, congratulated the inductees and added, May you be worthy of this high honor the school has bestowed upon you.

Medicorps members taking a look at the records and learning the correct procedure for filing are: Mary Ann Rich, Ellen Lagenegro, Gloria Cornacchio, Mary Lou Vetter, Elizabeth Pesesky, Karen Marinan, and Mrs. Bumbalo. BOOKMARK CLUB Going through the daily Library routine are Joan Green, Karen Marinan, Martha Haar, Kathleen Donahoe, and Mary Fran Milliken. IVIEDICORPS The Medicorps is a club which pro- motes interest and insight in all phases of the medical field. The members work with the Red Cross, Visiting Nurse and Health Association. Guided by Sister M. Marcellinus and Mrs. Bumbalo, the school nurse, they hold bake sales, car washes and raffles to raise money for supplies needed in the school health room. The members also hear speakers from the various areas of medicine and view films on different diseases and their cures. In carrying out its chief purpose of encouraging both students and faculty to use the library more effectively the Book- mark Club has promoted a program of service to others through the library. The first proiect concerning others in- cluded a Coffee Hour with the members of the Southside Library Club. In co- operation with a Diocesan proiect, to establish a library for grade school chil- dren at the Sister of Mercy Joseph Avenue Proiect in Rochester, the club has collected and donated books and encyclopedia. 94
