JUNIOR MISS Marcia's spontaneous reply to the iudges' question aids her in capturing the title of Chemung County's Junior Miss. Marcia McCarthy, Notre Dame's first candidate to suc- cessfully capture the title of Chemung County's Junior Miss, was crowned on November 5, i966 at the Horsehead's High School Auditorium. The event was the climax of many long hours of rehearsals and interviews involving all ofthe candidates. Marcia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Justin McCarthy, along with Mary Anne Gridley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gridley, represented Notre Dame in the pageant. As a result of winning the title on the local level, Marcia received a three-hundred dollar scholarship. She was also awarded the 'first place trophies for Scholarship and Achievement and Creative and Performing Arts for her presentation of Debussy's First Arabesque on the piano. Marcia then traveled to Rochester for the state finals held on November 26 and 27. There she placed as second runnerup and was recipient of a three-hundred dollar savings bond. Marcia has indeed earned her title as she undoubtedly has all of the outstanding qualities which a Junior Miss must possess. She has truly displayed the rewards of a Catholic education received at N. D. It is with great pride, Marcia, that we say that Chemung County's Junior Miss is our Junior Miss. 1 A r' L X , ... A is f dl' -1 2 Q bf- ii., in l lf f F R- N. rw sw JWNQ ww, Jef of .WNW ,ww ai i me As we travel along our iourney with Diogenes we meet the underclassmen, who, one day soon will ioin the Seniors in their quest for truth and enlightenment. Being a scientific observer, our modern Dio- genes cannot fail to notice that the spirited under- classmen here at Notre Dame are already striving diligently to attain their desired goals. The anxious underclassmen move toward these goals of intellectual achievement and personal maturity by working eagerly to succeed at whatever they attempt. Each one desires to develop himself and his abilities to the maximum. Young, efficient and ambitious, they are the honest men of tomorrow, for today they are willing to accept the discipline and criticism aimed at making them better students-better people. 50
