X THE WIRE FENCE The wires are holding hands around the holes, To avoid breaking the ring, they hold tight the neighboring wrist, And it's thus that with holes they make a fence Lord, there are lots of holes in my life. There are some in the lives of my neighbors. But if you wish, we shall hold hands, We shall hold very tight, And together we shall make a fine roll of fence to adorn Paradise. Michel Quoist PRAYERS

notre dame taught me pressure and competiton - notre dame taught me that the greatest challenge in life is learning to accept oneself - and notre dame taught me growth. Anonymous Notre Dame may not have the best facilities of all the area's high schools, the rules may seem absurd at times, but obviously a lot of .kids don't mind. I like N.D. because of the kids here . . . If you don't have friends, N.D. is prob- ably hell. If I were looking for a perfect learningatmo- sphere, a full rangeiofelec- tives, I don't think N.D. would be the place to find it. I just want a place from which I can get to college andfhave a good time. Goody' times come easy at ten years from now. N.D. g Mr. Joseph Wroblewski T om Root, junior Class of '63 my schoolffoir almost thirteen years. I have a strong tion ftirfit and its students have beentood to me. I cannotiimagine now not having a share in the life of the students of Notre matter hmfmvicarious. Myfylife is interwoven with their successes and hopes, and despairs. the greatest respect for itoday's Their potential is tremendous: theirilgiessponsiblities to-thefuture of their ity, so demanding. In my will meeffhe challenge of the future more than adequately. They are so much more concerned about their fellow-man and about the welfare of those aroundgthem than I was at high school age. They are earnest individuals with a flair humoroguggnd boisterous, grown-up child- ren in a world which promises no stable I admire the students of Notre Dame and respect their opinions. This year has been a limbo, in my opinion, as far as the academic life of the school is concerned. It has been extremely difficult to get students to participate in extra-curricular actiyities because it.t split sessions. The school as a whole, has not been not had the singleness of purpose about school work. and rallies are well-ordered and comparatively quiet. I miss the camaraderie and potential Saturday detentions of a full-school meeting. Lest this seem like a paid advertisement, I admit that there are weaknesses in our program as there are in all organized activities, but like an old die-hard Mets fan, I have to confess that I think 'Notre Dame offers a superior, educationalfyprof gram to at superior group of students, who inevitably measiireiup to expeetas tions when the chips are down. The number ofstudents who give extra time to school affairs and the number of teachers who are always on hand to help and en- courage the students give testimony to this. I am happy that Notre Dame has been such a fulfilling part of my life in the past few years. t 5 Mrs. Mary Palenchar I ' ' Change - for good or bad is a definite fact of life about any dynamic institution and Notre Dameeis-,nyo exception. It's been tentyears since this author walked down the aisle to bid fondfarewell to his alma ma- ter, and reflecting over the past ten years one can see many changes at Notre Dame. The building is a little older, or gaining characterp the style of dress has changed, there are a lot more lay teachers than before, and one can list numerous superficial contrasts between Notre Dame of '63 and '73, but when you get down to the basics, that intensive thing, thespirit of Notore Dame, I don't feel thatit has really changed, but rather adaptediitself to new times. Maybe the students are a bit more sophisticated than they were a decade ago, but I think deep inside they will find that their short stay at Notre Dame was one ofthe best times of their lives, maybe they won't realize this until they reflect back 'I 'i l About last year. When I was here. At Notre Dame. Pun? Lots. Hard? Definite- ly. Time consuming? My whole life . . . practically. Warm? Sometimes. Cold? Too often. Would Indo it again? Without question. I I ' You don't know what you've got 'til its gone. Is that how the song goes? But if you did the most with it when you had it, then you don't lose at all. You win. l won.' . t Notre Dame is still with me and within me. When I've stopped living it, I've lost. And time goes on, there's no returning. Butyyat least I've been there. Notre Dame is stilltwith me because I decided .to take it along. Meredith Esposito A Class of '72
