Sounds of Music from lfrom Beethoven to Basie, lirom the concert stage lo the Col- legiate -lan lfestival at Notre Dame University the various sec- tions ol the band have won kudos and standing ovations lirom the thousands that have heard them. The marching band's variety ol' hall'-time shows included the combined Notre Dame A .Ioliet Catholic hands lor homecoming, and the snowy exhibition at the Notre Dame - Spaulding ol Peoria game. ln its appearances at the Christmas Prelude, the Winter Concert, and the Spring Music Festival, the band has delved into music such as I5eethoven's Piano Concerto ggi , Victory at Sea , and numerous marches and popular pieces. Members ol' this band also prepared lor district and then state contests, playing Bennett's Saxophone Symphonette , and Desporte's French Suite lor lour clarinets. A third section of the band, the Nlelodons, stepped into the spotlight by winning the Oak Lawn High School Stage Band Contest with three special arrangements A an .X. Ifeeney arrange- ment ol' XfVonderl'ul , Li'l darlin' and Flight ol' the Foo Birds . They then combined these numbers with several other nrolessional-style arrangements and played the N.D.U. -Ian Festival. The resultant performance brought a Eve-minute stand- ing ovation plus the Congratulations ol' many wellsknown music authorities. The climax ol the year lor the band was the formation of the school chapter of Nlodern Nlusic Nlasters, a national honor society lor high school musicians. This drew together the bands- men to end a year oli work, work well-done and praiseworthv.
