In February, we happily greetedoa group lower than we on the scholastic ladder - the February Freshmen. Then, with our class complete, we re- ceived our academic caps and g0WDS at the Investiture ceremony. Once again the weather was against us - this time ice and snow had converted the campus into a spectacular but hazardous winter wonderland. This same month, we were proud to witness the beatification of Mar- guerite Bourgeoys, foundress' of the Congregation de Notre Dame, when attired in our academic robes we at- tended Mass in her honor at Saint Patriclis Cathedral. The Spring Term introduced us to some new fields of learning, among these, '4Home Nursing , and for months afterward everyone with even a simple headache was utreated for shock . During March, N. D. witnessed what probably was and will be, its only tragic comedy. In the Four One-Act Play competition, the illus- trious Freshmen presented a tragedy Tomorrow Is the Day, but because of prop failures and the misplaced cry-4'Let me have itli' as the gun was fired, the audience was laugh- ing hilariously when the curtain was closed. Although unrewarded, our efforts were not unappreciated. Rumors of increasing bus fares caused consternation for those travel- ing from a distance. At this time, we were still living in a paradise with two cent bus transfers, and most of us walked the hill twice daily. May saw us preparing for finals again, and for our first participation in Class Day exercises. On this event. ful day, we moved our tassels from left front to left back, signifying 0111- new position as Sophomoresg The closing of this academic year saw the departure of the cgwaterbury Girls for the C.N.D. mother-house in Montreal, this was the largest single group ever to leave our class. Our ranks had been depleted, but our spirits remained undaunted. We left for summer vacation like bright-eyed optimists. In our more scholarly m0m6I1iS-

Will we ever forget that feeling of wide worldly knowledge when we eyed the younger generation and its timid battles with the law of gravity and a teacup? We had returned to the college after a long vacation, combining a summer's tan with the fashion of sophisticated living, and wearing our black silk taffetas and spike heels. For this was the year that we knew all, that is, until the scourge of American History took its toll, and we were forced into action against preserved frogs. We had begun to know the joys of no longer heing a child, when we worried the freshmen with initiation and then magnanimously made peace with them.
