Destination-Pine Bush Term holiday, and none is complete with- out a real holiday! A long-awaited opportun- ity to get away from it all, replete with skates and woolies, was sponsored by the G.A.A. We boarded the bus and departed for our destination-Pine Bush. At last! Upperclassmen GHQ Ship-shape uimiiorr Year' WINTER This year we returned to Notre Dame with the deep awareness of our status as upper classmen. The gloom of Winter made us cog- nizant of the seriousness of our Junior Year. It was a Winter Wonderland and a time for decision! Majors must be chosen---intellectu- al hibernation devoted to earnest thought designated our entrance to the upper class strata. 'Ne, in turn, adopted Freshman Sisters with the'same feeling of good-natured mother hens preciously manifested by thosewho had adopted us two long years' ago. Our social calendar began with the Junior- Freshman Dance under the direction of Co- chairmen, Joan Cleary and Kathleen Hurley. Decorations handled by Terry Cangemi and Marilyn McNamara set a cheerful harvest scene for the college men who came to waltz the members of both classes. With staunch f-aith we strove to make our presence felt in the various club organiza- tions. Two new clubs were formed on the campus that year. The Young Democratic and Republican Clubs stressed the importance of political awareness-first voters and non- voters were wooed by both organizations. The Class of '53 had prominent members in many Clubs: Shirley Mazzotta represent- ing the Debating Club brought success to Notre Dame and the Junior Class with the defeat of lona College, Annemarie Swett proved her talent once again, as Liza, in Little Theatre's winter production of Pygmalion. Our doleful return after Christmas vaca- tion was cheered by the eager anticipation of the forthcoming C-.A.A. weekend. As Marie Haley snapped pictures galore, the Juniors, inhabiting the King's Dorm of Oak 'n Spruce Lodge, turned bunk beds into a set- ting for a three-ring circus. AIlez-oop! the mere mention of that phrase meant a victim. Take cover or fly through the air with the greatest of ease! 96
