Waltzing in Winter Woraderland The Winter Interlude, our Sophomore Christmas formal was our first social endea- vor. lts success, a product of the co-chair- manship of Janey Warren and Jean Kelly attested their ingenuity. A. A. MiIne's Ivory Door, Little Theatre's winter presentation imported men from Ford- ham for the roles of the King and his servant, establishing a precedent we hoped to see followed. Oh, mine was cute? Did you hear the Southern drawl on mine? These comments, uttered by ten Sophs concerning their Cadet escorts, were over-- heard at the Astor Hotel on the evening of the West Point Ball. For Ann Bechler and Loretta Francis this dance was the first step of a pleasant acquaintance. The most oustanding spiritual event of our academic life came on the occasion of the beatification of Marguerite Bourgeoys. l-lis Eminence, Francis Cardinal Spellman, pre- sided at a Solemn High Mass in St. Patrick's Cathedral. Our own Father Gebhard eulogized the virtues and achievements of the foundress of the Congregation of Notre Dame. This edifying experience we will cherish among our many memories. 93

Sophomore Year AUTUMN As the swallows come back to Capistrano, the Class of '53 returned to Grymes Hill, Polished, sophisticated, self-assured Sophs chatted gaily about our just Fabulous vacations. Dutyls first call took shape in the hazing of the new Freshmen. We looked askance at our unfortunate underlings and contemplated the unbridge- able gap between us. Most assuredly, these children were a sorry lot, indeed, but their ICT!!-Day John Fredricks' Originals 92 perserverance in many unreasonable demands won our admiration. After much scrutiny by the superior Sophs a gala celebration marked the end of hostilities. Something new came into our unsuspecting young lives that year. We were introduced to the world of science through our bio and chem courses. Who will ever forget that modernized Bunsen burner that sprayed the Lab ceiling? '

Destination-Pine Bush Term holiday, and none is complete with- out a real holiday! A long-awaited opportun- ity to get away from it all, replete with skates and woolies, was sponsored by the G.A.A. We boarded the bus and departed for our destination-Pine Bush.
