Act II As the footllghts once more Hooded the stage our cast emerged 1n a new charac terlzatlon The mesmerizatlon that had en veloped us for that memorable year slowly wafted away and soon we Sophomores ob served about us a metamorphosls 1n our school l1fe lt was a significant year which held promise of many new untried peuences At the formal Tea that officially opened our academic year, we expressed a hearty Welcome to two new members who had Joined the ranks of our faculty, Mother Saint Rita Marle and Mother Saint Joseph Paul, and renewed all those happy frlendshlps that had seen their beginning a long year ago Classes began in earnest after the Mass of the Holy Ghost and we all settled down to a year of hard work coupled with many pleasurable and memorable moments Ac tively we lent a hand in the various campus organizations that were all under the careful guidance of the newly formed General Ac llVlt16S Council, capably presided over by Es elle Hall, its First Lady We had plctured ourselves cast as formld able opponents of the new Frosh However the script did not provide for lt. The fresh- man hazing did not take on its usual charac- ter of ridiculous yet laughable attire, but we were still able to bury the hatchet at an en- joyable Cafe Supper after which we all be- came the best of friends. Our spirits were somewhat dampened by the sad news that we would not have the opportunity to attend the West Point Ball but we managed to laugh away our troubles at the magnihcent portrayal of Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing by the Catholic University Players. We cannot but feel proud that we were a part of that first Day of Recollection given by Rev. J. .l. Hooper, SJ. It became a wel- come pause in the bustle of school work in which we were able to stop and recall all that was given us, and all that was expected of us It seemed that almost too rapidly the spotlight shifted and soon the Student Coun c1l Bridge and Fashion Show, the Fordham Concert and the Sport Hop were only fond memories The Christmas setting brought with it to the center of the stage the first Charlty Bazaar., and we worked ceaselessly to help make it a success, inwardly hoping that we might be the glad winner of that cute Cocker pup who apparently knew all the scene stealing tricks As the holidays came closer and closer we lost ourselves in a glgantlc Christmas pro duction, The Candy Cane COtllll0Il Across a bridge of candy canes we entered a fairy land of twinkling lights and shimmering tlnsel, and danced till the stroke of twelve Again the scene changed and we found ourselves diligently burning the midnight 011 as a prelude to those terrifying finals Somehow though, as before, we managed to survive the ordeal, to pass all our exams, and to start our second term with high hopes We gratefully welcomed the three days of retreat and rallied to the plea of Father W. A. Reilly SJ. to become good Catholic women by renewing ourselves in the radiant love of God. A particularly fond memory that lingers from that busy Sophomore year was the mar- velous Father-Daughter Social where we all proudly displayed our wonderful Dads. Lights and shadows: classes, forums, so- cials, concerts, and suddenly we found, our- selves only a few weeks away from the end of our second act. We feted our Senior sisters at a farewell luncheon at the Statler, shared their joy on Class Day, and proudly assumed the role of upper classmen.
