My dear Seniors, HisTory will record for i962 The heroic exploiTs of Colonel John H. Glenn, Jr. whose orbiTal flighT loroughT presTige and fame To his counTry and To his fellow Americans. Such an achievemenT could be expecTed only from a man of char- acTer, of daunTless courage, from a man wholly dedicaTed To a cause. Who will Tell of The hours, days, years of physical, menTal and moral Training behind The five hours ThaT may well revoluTionize our civilizaTion? I read somewhere ThaT educaTion should do someThing Toward devel- opmenT of individual characTer dedicaTed To puTTing someThing inTo our civilizaTion and noT merely Toward geTTing The mosT ouT of iT. Your four years of college have, I hope, advanced you some paces Toward ThaT goal. CerTain iT is ThaT The measure of your success in life, indeed, of your very happiness, will depend on your sense of dedicaTion To The vocaTion God has in sTore for you.
