T HIS GRACE Born March 12, 1866 in Bavaria, Bishop Schrembs came to America at an early age. After long years of study, he was rewarded with ordination to the priesthood on June 29, 1889. It was in 1921, after ten years of zealous service as the Hrst bishop of Toledo, that he was transferred to the bishopric of the Cleveland Diocese. Of his labors here we need say little, for the splendid record speaks for itself. His judicious administration of the affairs of his oflice and his unselfish efforts on behalf of numerous leagues, have distinguished him as an outstanding churchman. It is not surprising then, that Bishop Schrembs' years of service and leadership should be climaxed with a singular honor when the newly-reigning Pope Pius XII, in his first official act concerning the American Hierarchy, conferred upon him the title, Archbishop We at Notre Dame congratulate our bishop upon his new appointment and also upon his Hfty years in the priesthood, and feel that there is significance in the fact that our sixtieth anniversary falls in the same year as that of his golden jubilee. For Archbishop Schrembs' inspiration and support have done more than any other single factor in making Notre Dame what it is today.
