Puiilng Fira' RELIGION is the most important ele- ment in the compound of school life. Each day, week and month is dedicated to Gur Namesake and her Son. The sun, shining through stained glass, finds the entire chapel filled with girls engaged in early morning prayer and song. Throughout the day, as the sun beams through the crucifixion window, and later, when the long slanting rays of late afternoon shine through, students still continue to make pop-calls to Him. Retreat . . . time to make longer visits, time to be alone with God. Beautiful silent days, March 7-10, to attend Mass, conferences, stations and Benediction. This year's retreat was the first double one in the history of the school. Rev. Andrew Cook, SJ., of Chicago, con- ducted exercises for the freshmen and sophomores in the auditorium, which was converted into a temporary chapel. At the same time Rt. Rev. Msgr. Floyd Begin, S.T.D., guided the juniors and seniors in the regular chapel. Open forums and discussions put Notre Dame's classes in religion on a practical basis. Once a week, in addition to the daily classes taught by the Sisters, the juniors and seniors are given special instruction by priest members of the faculty.
