Several NDBG seniors have participated in these games in the past two years. Chris Siler ran in the 5,000 meter and 10,000 meter events in two succeeding years. Laurie Kozubal walked the 3,000 meter race and placed eighth. Joe Curtin placed eighth in the 5,000 meter race while still a Junior. Jim Mann “walked” into seventh place as a Junior and first place as a Senior. Pat Moroney, also of NDBG, won the previous year and the walk crown came to our school, where it still remains, thanks to Jim. The 1981 Cross Country season was one of high expectations, high achievements, comebacks and injuries. Both the boy’s and girl’s teams defended their Big 10 championships. The boys finished with an 8-0 record and the girls were 7-0. The JV boys also were undefeated and won a Big 10 championship as they finished 8-0. The gir were first at Gloversville and the Siena Invitational. Because of injuries, they limped to a seventh place finish at the Sectionals. The boys had their most successful season with a first at Cobleskill, Marist, and the Siena Invitational. The Harriers finished second at Troy and lost by one point to Niskayuna in the Sectionals. They were invited to the prestigious federation meet at Sunken Meadows, and placed 24 out of the top 33 teams in the state. Dave Downs, a transfer from CBA, was the most consistent runner this fall. He was named to the All Star team in Big 10 dual meet competition. The big story for the boys was the comeback of Joe Curtin. Joe was told during the summer that his running career may be finished, yet battled back to finish 3rd in the State Federation Meet against In Jim Mann’s Junior year, he competed in the Junior Nationals 10 KM walk in Tennessee. Jim tied third which qualified him for the U.S.A. Junior National Racewalking team. The top four travelled to England where they raced three times. Jim placed 6, 16, and 8. After returning to the United States, Jim left for Syracuse and the Empire State Games where he won the 5 KM walk. After Syracuse, Jim left for Colorado Springs where he participated in the Olympic Training Center Racewalker Camp. Congratulations Jim! We’re proud of you. all top runners in New York. He also ran 12:51 in Van Cortland Park which is the fastest time ever run by a BG runner and the second fastest by an area runner. Chris Siler was the most consistent runner for the girls as she wrapped up her classy four year career with a first place at the Siena Invitational. Kim Walker qualified for the Federation Meet. Kim looms as one of the best in the area for next year. Brian Curtin, Tom Day, Tom Larson, Bob Stenard and Jim Mann were BG’s varsity as Mike McTague (1st in JV Sectionals) and Tony Conn (3rd in JV Sectionals) were Gibbons top JV runners. With six strong runners returning next year, BG should once again be very strong. Chris and Kim win Mike leads the pack Take your marks . . . Football Row 1: P. Russell, J. Morbidelli, S. Baker, D. The play was a very enjoyable event for all who participated in it as well as those who came to see it. Judi Wilfore and Neal Flatt, both seniors last year, handled leading roles with grace and ease. Tom Gavin, Liz Meachem, Amy Peterson, and Doug Bradt also gave fine performances which added to the enjoyment of the play. Of course, the people responsible for the success of the play are Mr. Maguire, who was our choreographer, Br. Miller, our director, Mrs. Peterson, who led the band, and Ms. Sancho, our vocal director. The guidance and direction of these people were responsible for bringing the talents of all the people involved together in order to make Anything Goes the success it was. 143 ‘What do you mean this is Scene 3?' DOWN, INC. Airport Road Scotia, New York Well, Lord, here it is — my graduation. Everyone is treating me royally nd it’s just as exciting as I hoped it would be. Suddenlyj have a wonderful feeling of freedom; But, as always;-f-need to take time to talk things over with you. My mind is filled to the brim Urtth memories. I’ve spent some pretty good years, Lord? .. I’ve made some friends I’ll never forget. And you know, when I look back I wonder why sometimes I was in such a hurry To leave it all behind. Lord, you know better than anyone else That it wasn’t all fun and games. I had my problems like everyone else But You always heard my distress calls And helped me over the rocky places. Thank you Lord, for the many people Who helped me along the way so far — The teachers who challenged me To make that extra effort, Arid friends who helped to make my school years , Full and happy. . I ’ I % : Thank you, too, for my family who listened And understood — and somehow endured. They’re all very special to me, Lord. And I’ll always be grateful to You ! For making them a part of my life. It’s a very important chapter of my life That’s coming to a close. Lord. • . Now what? Getting that diploma has been My goal for so long, | | It seems strange to think beyond graduation. As you know so well, I have a lot of plans And a lot of dreams that I’ve been carrying around in my heart. Now I’m ready to start making them come.true With your hejp, Lord. jL. ' i | i I can’t help wondering where I’ll be in ten years Or twenty. Will I have the same dreams and desires? Or will they, too, change as I change over the years? Wherever I am, whatever my situation, I’ll always need you, Lord, And I know You’ll be there! We hear so much about the perilous conditions Of the world we’re inheriting. I’m sure these Conditions do exist, but I’m equally sure that There is much goodness and beauty in this world. Help me always to see the roses and the rainbows To try to change what needs to be changed. If not throughout the world, then at least In my little corner of it. I’ve seen enough of life to know that there are bound to Be disappointments along the way. Sometimes Your answer To my prayers will have to be “No”. Help me to grow from my setbacks, Lord, and Never to lose my zest for living. From now on. I’ll be making more and more Decisions on my own. Help me, Lord, always to choose those things of lasting value. There are so many directions I can take from here The possibilities are exciting — and limitless. Help me to find my place in life, Lord, That certain place where I can find the Richest fulfillment and make the greatest contribution. And now, Lord, I pray that you will continue to walk Beside me as I cross the threshold of the future — And move in the direction of my dreams!
