The perplexed looks on the faces of more than seven hundred September zombies was sufficient testimony to the fact that things are sure different around this place!” But with an adapt- ability that surprised even themselves, students soon ad- mitted that the temporary strain on their pattern of exist- ence was worth the effort. Faced with the inevitable complications inherent in every change of leadership, the Gibbons administration under the direction of Principal Brother Thomas P. Draney has succeeded in incorporating countless valuable and ambitious innovations. Ultimate purposes and obligations, however, do not change. Tranquil, efficient, neither timid nor intimidat- ing, the Bishop Gibbons administration pursues these goals with a quiet urgency. Brother Patrick B. Lane, aside from his demanding duties as teacher and as vice-principal, has assumed the necessary responsibility of dealing with those who would curse the daylight; His efficiency as Dean of Discipline can be attested to by occasional offenders or by the ever- diminishing group of regulars.” This year our chief counselor and guidance coordinator is Brother J. A. Van Koolbergen. His job is to organize, coordinate, and supervise the school’s vital guidance ac- tivities. The problems of fostering the intellectual, social, and spiritual development of the student body are the re- sponsibilities of this very popular and knowledgeable ad- visor. Br. J. G. Carr, treasurer of the school, has the respon- sibility of supervising all school finances and of coping with the perennial problem of parochial education. Br. Carr is also coordinator of athletics. Our nurse, Mrs. Waligurski, must tend to everything from keeping medical records and quelling epidemics to dispensing band-aids to bail-point victims and amateur chemists, and aspirins. Mr. E. Oliveira heads both the Athletic Department and the Physical Education Department here at Gibbons. The Physical Education Department which includes Mr. M. Meola, instills in the students a justifiable pride in their fitness. Fr. Cox, who is a member of the Guidance Department and Chaplain, concerns himself with the religious life of the students in our school. The secretaries, Mrs. Bennis and Mrs. Little, have the responsibilities of typing letters, filling out reports, and attending to a thousand details, which they do with a radiant cheerfulness and graciousness which belies the rigors of the demands made on them. It is only through such capable and conscientious per- sonnel that Bishop Gibbons has acquired its ever-growing reputation for inculcating in its students a durable sense of values.
