Council Leads in Service The establishment among N.D.A. students of friendly cooperation inspired by respect for the laws of the school is the aim of Notre Dame's Student Council. Democracy in action, the Council is composed of 40 members, elected by the students. Headed by a President and three other officers, it acts as mediator between the student body and the faculty. At monthly meetings, student dif- ficulties are ironed out, and suggestions for the betterment of the school are de- cided upon. The Council sponsors drives, dances, and special projects ol the school. Each day, Councillors are at their posts before school, during change of classes, and alter school. Each Freshman home room is assigned a Senior Councillor, who becomes for the Green-ties a kind of guardian angel, as she helps them over the confusing but wonderful days of freshman year. When Freshmen elections conclude at mid-term, nine new councillors join the thirty-two veteran student representatives. Holding a list of notices of rehearsals, games, programs, and club meetings tand a few detene tionsj Student Council President Sheila Reynolds prepares to read the afternoon announcements over the P.A. system. Vice-president Mary Ann Allman prefixes Sheila's remarks with familiar chimes that strike fear into the heart of the non-law-abiding citizen of Kay Street. Elected by the Senior Class, the President and Veep preside over Student Council and Senior Class activities and assemblies. ii-W XVait for the second bell, joan Butt chides Kathleen Schommer Senior Student Councillors.
