' Awed but inquisitive eyes peered from under the brims of brand new navy-blue hats, as our l38 freshmen, tightly clutching rosters, began to explore. First discovery was a new oppor- tunity for nearness to Our Lord, through a study of His Life, weekly confession, and lre- quent Mass and Communion. The school lib- rary became a treasure trove, where Miss Curi- osity became so absorbed that sometimes she was almost late for her next class, in Latin, English, algebra, world history, home economics, art, or physical education. Green-tied aquateers, however, registered dismay upon hearing that the legendary swimming pool was under repair, and could lltll he used. Disturbed because her algebraic graph is incorrect, M. Vargo looks on as H. Gleeson tries her luck. The smile of M. Roney shows that she is anxious to explain the right solution. Watching with interest, at left, are C. Howell and D. But when her muscles finally began to limber, gym took its place among her favorite subjects. She still had energy for art class, where she demonstrated the intricacies of gothic and Roman lettering and disagreed with the color wheel. The most impressive aspect of world history, she felt, was the size of the textbook. Christmas time found many N.D.A. girls, among them C. Callahan, taking children to visit Santa. Santa's reindeer, skimming up a stairwell decked in red and white, heralded the approach ol' Christmas at N.D.A. From the top ol' the stairs, the Star ol' Bethlehem hung poised above clouds of angel-hair over the Crib scene erected below. The scent ol' fragrant pine stood in the air, from the huge tree erected in the rotunda where hung the Advent Wreath. Laughter of bustling decorators echoed from every home- room, and the spirit ol' Christmas grew with N.D.A. efforts to bring Christmas joy to the old folks and orphans, Indians, and the missions, On the nineteenth, alter a visit from Santa Claus to every homeroom, Seniors, carrying candles and gay carol books, filed into a dram- atically darkened auditorium to sing French carols. Alter the sing, a series of beautiful tab- leaux retold the Christmas story. lielow, left: After cutting down a thirteen-foot Christmas tree to decorate the rotunda for Senior carol-singing, J. Webster and A. Brandt bravely climb to the top to set the Christmas angtel in place. Right: XVhite Christmas in Room 25. Decorators j. Wood, J. Howell, and li. 'ii-.- NS 'Q 0 - -nfl They walked together over the white pathway into Trinity College Chapel. Kneeling, they prayed as a class for the last time. Moments, parts of moments, and fleeting moods from high school days flowed through the mind of each girl as she sat in the peaceful chapel: her green tie, her part in the Spring Festival, cafeteria gab fests, her first award.. . Father spoke to them of the great task each must face, reminded them that they were well prepared. This talk was like others they had heard in school, yet it was different , . . it was the last. The solemn moment of Benedic- tion ended the ceremony, and the graduates walked slowly down the aisle, Passing under the arch of Our Lady, they walked out into the world, each to go her separate way alone- but not alone, O Mary, for thou art with me.
