This is because, if anything makes it possible for a student to plumb learn- ing's depths profound, IT does. Latin stays in another sense. lt stays the student in her struggle to cultivate her mind for it is an excellent whetstone on which to sharpen her mental tools. For heads that are more than ornaments it provides stimulating challenge that is as much appreciated as a mountain to a climber.
