A high school is people. It is a busy principal, aconcerned guidance counselor, a hard working secretary, a learned teacher. It is an inquisitive student, a skilled musician a tense athlete, an energetic cheerleader. A high school is motion. lt is alive with color, brimming with action. We, the Senior Class of 1966, proudly dedicate our year- book to the people of NNCS. 3 I , , TABLE OF CONTENTS RECOGNITION ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY SENIORS UNDERGRADUATES ACTIVITIES SPORTS MUSIC ADVERTISERS AND SPONSORS - IN RECOGNITION MR. WILLIAM J. CORBETT We, the Class of 1966, have chosen to honor the people of NNCS in general, and Mr. William J. Corbett in particular, Mr. Corbett is a man of many energies. He has served as a teacher of business education at NNCS since 1961. He has been more than an educator, however, during these years. To the Class of 1966, Mr. Corbett has been a teacher, a counselor, a coach, and a friend. He is never too involved or absorbed in himself to offer assistance. His guidance has helped us through our floundering high school years. We therefore dedicate the 1966 Keystoner to Mr. William J. Corbett with sincerity and gratitude. ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY E ' is l sm-.....' The administration and faculty give of themselves con- stantly. They are the people who keep the school running smoothly and offer the gift of knowledge. They are an integ- ral part of our school, yet they are an entity. We dedicate this section to them. BOARD OF EDUCATION MRS. STANDING: Mr. Mark Jenner, MISSING: Mrs. Caroline Colbert. Mrs. Shirley Orologio, Mrs. Blanche Palmer - Clerk, In writing to the seniors, one has many thoughts, many ideas. Haven't these been told before and has anyone paid any attention to them? Icould speak of the importance of further education. I could speak of the importance of being a good citizen with all that this entails. I could speak of the importance of good health, of how good health can be de- stroyed by overeating, overdrinking, by tobacco, but I would like to pen a few lines about something Norwood-Norfolk Central,School lacks and that isan Alum- ni Association. DR. HENRY VINIC OR President As has been proved in other schools and colleges, a good alumni group can do wonders for a school. What wouldbe the advantages? I could list but afew. Sim- ply getting together year after year and renewing old friendships, improved school spirit, raising of funds to help needy undergraduates, funds for scholar- ships for deserving students, etc. ln or- der to do thIs,actlve leadership ls needed, and applecarts would have to be over- turned. Are there such leaders in your class? ADMINISTRATORS MR. RICHARD W. HANN SUPERVISING PRINCIPAL Your class has been offered an opportunity that has come to no other class from Norwood-Norfolk. For the first time a class has been offered not only an academic program but one of vocational education. This should provide your class better preparation to face life. My best wishes for the future of all of you. Francis W. Kelly Education has once again been placed at the pinnacle as the most important factor in the achievement of the goals of the Great Society. The strengthening and enrich- ment of current educational programs and practices and the addition of new ones is being encouraged by large ex- penditures of federal funds. The pressure of educating each individual to the highest level of which he is capable is being more keenly felt at all levels. Students should set a high educational goal at an early age and work to- ward it throughout their lifetime. As graduates of N.N,C.S, you should examine and evaluate your goal once again, and then continue to work toward it with renewed vigor. My congratulations upon your graduation, and may your education continue throughout your lifetime. Richard W, Hann MR. FRANCIS KELLY VICE PRINCIPAL MR. Since then he has become an integral part of the Class of '66. His reserve, geniality and easy-go- ing manner made him a friend of the other students. He took an active part in school sports and various other activities. As Co-captain of our school soccer team, he led his teammates through a triumphant first season. Although he knew little about hockey, never- theless he attended many practices and became an avid fan. Later on, he joined the Ski Club and enjoyed their weekly excursions to the slopes. He was an excellent ping-pong player, a whiz at chess, and a worthy con- tender at pool. His quietness led those who did not know him to be- lieve that he was hampered by a language barrier, but those of us who knew him well remember when he was with us after sunset his liveliness came to the surface. He learned to like otu- hot-dogs, hamburgers and sherbet, but never could get used to our class deadlines. He was always anxious to tell us about his native land, but we found he was well versed on our country, too. They asked us not to Americanize Stefan and in- deed we have not, for when he leaves us, he will be his same indomitable self. Although we have helped to broaden his education, we have not converted him to our pace, our dancing or our love of puns and the Beatles. Under Stefan's reserve and complacency lie a droll sense of humor and a deep and uncritical interest in those around him, which will always keep the memory of his stay fresh in our minds. Blue. itdtitafi i Stefan with Mr. Edward Walsh, president of the local American Field Service chapter, at location of Niagara Mohawk site. SERVICE DANNY The American Field Service International Scholarship helps to build a bridge between the United States and other countries. The program is a cooperative effort to further goodwill and the exchange student is not just participating in an in- ternational peace program. He does not become simply a small particle in an immense organiza- tion. lnlis is an individual and very personal ex- perience. He finds differences and similarities between his homeland and his host country and is exposed to many new ideas and attitudes. He gains insight into the problems facing the people of the world and learns of other methods of solving them. He learns to appreciate his mother country and what it has to offer him. But in my opinion, more important than any- thing else. is what the student discovers about himself, The AFS program is a mirror which re- flects the true character of the young ambassador. He can see clearly his own attitude and how it r'rs ' XE rssl. as. f r . S affects his relationship to others. The entire ex- S f i perience serves to broaden the student's education- al background and quicken his pace on the road to maturity. I personally am still realizing the true value of my own experience and deem the American Field Service worthy of my complete appreciation for its efforts in behalf of myself and thousands of others who have taken part in the program.
