' Ri. we Rs? si. st sa Q as i MEMORIAM DR, C, P. MARTIN Clement P. Martin, son ofJames C. and Jennie Phillips Martin, was born June 25, 1891, in the town ofLouisvil1e. After his graduation from Potsdam High School, he attended the University of Michigan from which he received his degree in chemistry in 1918. I-le started practicing dentis- try in Norfolk that year with offices in both Norfolk and Norwood. Dr, Martin had many friends in both villages. He participated in community affairs, having served as a member of the school board. He belonged to the Norwood Kiwanis Club, and took part in the village government. Dr, Martin's loss will be felt by the communities he served for over half a century. 6 MRS. BETTY RAMSEY LEDFORD Mrs. Betty Ramsey Ledford, daughter of Letha and Floyd Ramsey, was born March 1, 1942, Betty attended Norwood-Norfolk Central area schools for eleven years. The tragic accident that took her life occurred on May 5, 1962. At that time she was living in Murphy,North Carolina, with her husband Clarence Ledford and their two children, Clarence, Jr, and Paula. The news of her untimely death was a shock to all of her N,N.C.S. classmates. Betty will always be remembered by her classmates and friends. With her death we all lost a truly fine person.

MEMCRIAM DR. MARTIN BRANDT Martin Brandt was born November 1, 1893, in Posan, Poland, where he spent his earlier years and where he graduated from Friedrich Wilhelm Gymnasium. He studied at the Universities of Breslau and Berlin, receiving his doctor's degree from the University ofBres1au. where he graduated magna cum laude. He interned at Hygienisches Institute of the University of Breslau and later at Childi-en's Hospital in Berlin. He began private practice in Berlin-Spandau, Germany. In 1938, after Hitlex-'s rise to power, Dr. Brandt emigrated to the U,S., where he took and passed his Medical State Board Examination. About eighteen years ago Dr. Brandt came to the North Country, establishing practice in Bombay, where he remained for eight years. During the ten years the Brandts were in Norfolk, Dr. Brandt had been extremely active in the Red Cross Blood Program. He was always civic-minded, as he worked in close cooperation with school officials and with the late Dr, J' ames Smith in promoting preventive clinics, mass innoculations, et cetera, He had served with the late Dr. Smith as NNCS physician and assumed full responsibility after Dr. Smith's death. Kind, gentle, retiring, unassuming, patient -- all these adjectives could be applied to Dr. Brandt. But he will probably be best remembered for that characteristic usually attributed to doctors of an earlier era -- a lively, constant, personal interest in all his patients. Dr. Brandt will be missed by his patients, his friends, and the many. many students of NNCS,
