I wish you well in your future endeavors, hoping that each of you will always think for himself before making any decision. In other words, never be mob-led. For those few who don't count their blessings as far as this school is concerned, may I compare the school of 1943 with that of 1961. That the one of 1943 was a GOOD one there can be no doubt, That the one of 1961 is an EXCELLENT one is equally clear, In 1943, as far as sports are concerned, there were cheerleaders and baseball, basketball, and soccer teams. In the same year there were hobby, craft, dramatic, and camera clubs, a vocal group of nine, a chorus, and a band. In 1961, you people have baseball, basketball, cross-country, touch football, cheerleaders, ice hockey, bowling, and volleyball. You also have Symphonic Choir, Girls' Glee Club, Senior and Junior Band, Bel-Aires, Starlites, Knights of Rhythm, F.T,A,, NationalHonor Society, Keystoner, Student Prints, Student Council, F.B.L.A., and Debate, Science, Library, Pep, ski, radio, medical and camera clubs. Also there are Majorettes, and Senior Homemakers. In 1961 you have the various educational activities and departments which did not exist here in 19435. a Business Education Department with many commercial machines second to none in Northern New York, Drivers' Training, Homemaking, an Art Department, far better laboratories, a Dental Hygienist, a Guidance Director, a Health Department, an extensive library, an excellent gymnasium, curriculum coordinators, a speech teacher and therapist, a cafeteria, and a psychologist, Thus you see that everything is here to help make you better people. I hope you have taken advantage of all of this, for it is you who, in the future as voting citizens, will decide whether Norwood-Norfolk Junior High School can become a SUPERIOR one. My congratulations to the class of 1961 upon the com- pletion of your high school program. Your class has had an opportunity to participate in the challenging new programs offered this year at the college of Education at Potsdam in English, at Clarkson in mathematics and in the Vocational Industrial Cooperative program in this school. May you always be a member of a group that is par- ticipating in a program for the betterment of all. F, W. Kelly, Vice-Principal It is healthy for any people, and particularly for you graduates, to consider the goals that you will seek. However, thisl is not enough, for you must consider how you will attain these goals. I believe that the most important road you can follow to achieve your goals is the road to education, It is not a road of the past, but a road of the future that we must follow, We are faced with fresh problems, expanding technology, new social and economic situations, and exploding political forces throughout the world. lgnorant people cannot hope to cope with the world of the lsixties, Even the best educated will face problems of such magnitude and complexity that they will be challenged to the utmost, Geography, military might, economic superiority, or political power by themselves cannot save us or even provide reasonable security. As never before in history, man must depend on his intellectual and spiritual strength. I congratulate you upon the completion of your high school education. May you always choose the best roads and the most worthwhile goals as you continue your education. t wma'
