THE CLASS OF 1986 DEDICATES THIS EDITION OF THE TIOT TO THE MEMORY OF THE SEVEN CHALLENGER ASTRONAUTS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES THIS YEAR: GREG JARVIS, CHRISTA MCAULIFFE, RON MCNAIR, ELLISON ONIZUKA, JUDY RESNIK, DICK SCOBEE, AND MICHAEL SMITH. WE ESPECIALLY REMEMBER CHRISTA MCAULIFFE WITH HER ENTHUSIASTIC ATTITUDES TOWARD THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCA- TION AND THE ACCEPTANCE OF LIFE’S CHALLENGES. PRESIDENT REAGAN, IN HIS EULOGY AT THE JOHNSON SPACE CENTER IN HOUSTON, SAID “WE LEARNED AGAIN THAT THIS AMERICA, HICH ABRAHAM LINCOLN CALLED THE LAST BEST HOPE OF MAN ON EARTH, WAS BUILT ON HEROISM AND NOBLE SACRIFICE. IT WAS BUILT BY MEN AND WOMEN LIKE OUR SEVEN STAR VOYAGERS, WHO ANSWERED A CALL BEYOND DUTY, WHO GAVE MORE THAN WAS EXPECTED OR RE- QUIRED, AND WHO GAVE IT WITH LITTLE THOUGHT TO WORLDLY REWARD.” WE, THE CLASS OF 1986, WISH TO EMULATE THE ATTITUDES OF THESE SEVEN PEOPLE, WHILE REACHING FOR OUR OWN GOALS.
