The historic day that the Class of the Half Century swarmed up the hill like so many eager beavers . . . the singing and jesting as we infiltrated our castle on high . . . that feeling of independence from lower school routine . . . finding our classrooms sans compass and the doubtful directions of the traffic officers, as a result of Mr. Hayden ' s explicit directions . . . our losing battles with Caesar . . . deciphering the Pythagorean Theorem for the football stars . . . the piercing screams of our red-headed heroine, M. J. Murphy, during the blood tests . . . when the fellows viewed the new look with such obvious nausea . . . our timorous approach to the arcade and the mysteries of the voting booths . . . our excellent choice of officers for our year as enfants terribles, Frank Malacaria, President; Nancy Pearson, Vice President; Dorothy Stepanowich, Secretary; Patricia Maroney, Girls ' Treasurer; Fred Feaver, Boys ' Treasurer; Constance Weisul, Girls ' A.A .; Richard J ordano, Boys ' A. A. . . . our Sopho- more Party — the two versions of Temptation by Patty and Gennie . . . Whitey and his har- monica . . . the smooth selections of our own orchestra . . . the climax of the party when the friendly football stass borrowed a major portion of our refreshments . . . putting on our assembly for the upper classmen and the praise we received for our performance . . . the flutter- ing of many a maiden ' s heart as Coach Scafati walked by . . . the adoption of the Sophomore girls by the upper classmen for the Prom, much to the dismay of their big sisters . . . our selection of class rings and the usual exchange of many before a week had passed . . . the groans and complaints that greeted our attempts to extract class dues . . . the realization, that as June approached, we had passed one milestone on the road to graduation and that N.H.S. in our estimation was, in a word . . . Wunderbar.

The gradual readjustment to the familiar routine of School Daze . . . covering the limitless number of school books . . . greeting old friends and making hosts of others . . . the attempts of the athletic members of our class to step into the spotlight with the mighty seniors . . . our colorful demonstrations at the football games . . . our valiant efforts to beg, borrow, or steal a car to attend the basketball and hockey games . . . blaming the misdemeanors of the whole school on our elusive Wetched Wabbit . . . the long hours we toiled on those ingenious chemistry projects (and the frequent requests that we send Mr. Learnard home for supper) . . . Miss Steele ' s patience with the girls ' cooking problems in Home Ec . . . the inauguration of Pat O ' Grady to the Governor ' s Council at Girls ' State . . . how Chick and Gerry wouldn ' t talk about their adventures at Boys ' State . . . the results of our election of officers: Margaret Falconer, President; Dorothy Stepanowich, Secretary; Patricia Maroney, Girls ' Treasurer; Paul Piraino, Boys ' Treasurer; Patricia Donahue, Girls ' A. A.; Joseph Sparrow, Boys ' A. A. . . . that unexpected winter vacation when the boilers were repaired, and our indignation when vacations were shortened to make up for the lost time . . . our sufferings resulting from the hazardous experimenting of Mr. Learnard ' s all-girl chemistry class . . . following the players ' bus to the baseball games in Gige ' s car . . . Gige ' s frantic pantomime to Bridget(the driver ? ) from the back window of the bus . . . those temperamental brakes! . . . the treasured souvenirs from Cappies after our Moonlight and Roses Prom . . . our last farewells to the Forty Niners . . . our anticipation of senior laurels . . . that all students agree about the junior year . .
