High school years offer us many new begin- nings. During these four years, we begin developing our distinctive goals which later become our road to adult life. Thus, a good beginning can determine our future prosperity. MI w; w . lbki i$. :leg', ' WWWWWW:z-ESEWMW mm . WWWW W WWWM m: IMMW 31 tabsiji : ' c-- ccmcoclav .0 .90th ., ACADEMIC BEGINNINGS . . . Musically in- clined students receive an op- portunity to further their abilities. The publications staffs undertake the tasks of providing the students with highlights of the year, while the business staffs work to raise the necessary money. Vocationai clubs and Co-op programs prepare juniors and seniors for future oc- cupations while they continue academic courses. Rendering special services to the school are the projectionists and the office, clinic, and library workers. Student representatives comprise the Stu- dent and Giris' Councils to help bind the faculty and students together in better understanding. School spirit is stimulated by Pep Club and the intriguing half-time shows of the Majorettes and In- dianettes. F.T.A., Y-Teens, P.A.LS., and the language clubs unite students of common interests. N Club and National Honor Society enable outstanding students to become associated with students from different schools. By participa- tion in activities, a student grows in poise and social consciousness through association with others. CHIEFS Heading the many organizations at Norwood High are dedicated and active students who spend endless hours working to generate unity and enthusiasm among other students with similar objectives. These individuals strive for a successful and enjoyable year that each member of the organization will cherish along with his other high school ex- periences. The rewards gained from their efforts are invaluable, a beginning to understanding and dedica- tion to a cause. 29 FRENCH CLUB OFFICERS: Robin Sittason, secretary; Larry Roy, vice-president; Brian Stricker, president; Debbie Tincher, treasurer, LATIN CLUB OFFICERS: Jon Smith, president; Tim Cox, program chairman; Linda Owens, secretary; Bob Naber, vicepresidem. The spirit of competition between members of a team enabies the players to meet and overcome challenges. Spirit also unites players and fans in a common 3an n the desire for victory. This year's teams were led by a strong group of seniors, with the help of many promising un- derclassmen. Excitement filled the new football stadium, fieidhouse, and OIympic-size swimming pool as the Indians strove for victorious records to complete their seasons. Active girls were given the opportunity to take part in individual or team sports through the Giris' Athletic Association. Sports must go hand-in-hand with academic educa- tion. it is the aim of the athletic program through interscholastic comp petition to encourage new friendships and good sportsmanship, as well as to improve playing techniques. By par- ticipating in sports, an athlete begins to develop leadership, endurance, and discipline. ru- ISSE ?2 7NHSFACUL TY ' Tucsdl;-.Hl Ch-l? SENIOR OFFICERS-lulia Naish, secretary; Chatfie Hull, vice-president; Dave Meinking, president; Keith Wright, treasurer. As graduation approached for the class of 1973, we began to reflect on the many memories of our high school years. As freshmen, we embarked upon a totaily new way of life - switching classes, our first high school game, our first exam - but we slowly became a part of the high school routine. Our sophomore year brought many new adven- tures - feeling superior to freshmen, dissecting worms and frogs in Miss Sayre's biology class, driving with Mr. Maitland, proving theorems in geometry - but somehow we managed to live through it all. As juniors, we adjusted quickly to the privileges of being upperclassmen - our class rings, our Junior Prom, partici ating in the varsity ames - but our hi h school ays began to go by aster than ever. At ast we arrived at the beginning of our most important and final year. Asseniors we 2l4 presented the traditional Senior Class Play, made vital decisions concerning college or vocations, sup orted the football team on the rainy Senior Nig t, exchanged calling cards and senior pic- tures, and set examples for the underclassmen. Any member of the graduating class of 1973 can proudly display the 1973 on his ring or the numerals on his jacket and be recognized as a member of the first class to complete a full year in the new high school. Now that we are at an end of our high school days, all we have left is a jumble of memories. Graduation marks the final step of school life, but the beginning of adult life; thus, we have reached an end which leads to a new beginning. , GOODBYE, FAREWELL, NORWOOD HIGH SCHOOL. There was a time when a high school diploma could be considered an end - sufficient education for the job ahead. But no more. Not in these days of ever-advancing technology and intense indivtdual competition. Now, whether you're planning on a white-collar or blue-collar job, the requirements are much the same - more knowledge. more skills, more education. And that means study beyond high school. The decision is yours. Make it carefully. for it will probably be the most important one ypu'll ever make. We at Allis-Chalmers hope it will be for further study. Deeply involved in space-age technology ourselves, we know first-hand the crucial importance of special skills and education. As co-editors, we find it hard to realize that the 1973 SILHOUETTE is finally completed. We hope that all the hours we have spent in the construction of this book have not been in vain and that the SILHOUETTE will meet the expectations of everyone, especially the seniors. In years to come, look back at the 1973 SILHOUETTE and recall the days long past when you sang in a Spring Concert, went to Mr. lawson's or Miss Griffin's office for the first time, crammed for those terrible exams, or exchanged calling cards with your senior friends, some of whom you no longer remember. We have tried to capture the 1972-73 school year in its entirety so you may relive it again and again. Special thanks to those people who helped make our 1973 SILHOUETTE possible. Although we had a lot of unforeseen problems throughout the year, we hope we have created a book to be enjoyed and cherished by all. NOMA 8: ELLEN CO-EDITORS 27l J4 , togralolw 270
