I see it all - over my shoulder. First, I see Johnny, the president of our senior class, now as our sky pilot. He stood out head and shoulders in the bright clouds of our ambitions for better things. He was friendly and capable, so you know we love and esteem him. This is Charles, the vice president of our class. Charles made us a good veep as he helped us with our activities. Donald Ross was our treasurerg and you know how efficient he was, since he had to handle all our large sums of money and bank accounts. Eleanor was our secretary, most efficient in answering-all the tons of mail connected with our business and social affairs. It gives me a thrill to look over my shoulder and welcome our historical past in athletics. Here are W. B. and Raymond, co-captains of our football team. In boys' bas- ketball Raymond and Leslie were co-captains. Marlene and Carolyn Byrd were co-cap- tains in girls' basketball. We had a good band in '56-'57. Mr. Griffin had 48 instruments. Larry Boles was the drum major, Sue played the bass drum, Donald Ross lead trumpetg Carolyn Whitley, a saxophone. It was a thrill to present the junior play with Larry Boles, Flora Jane, Jimmy and Ruby as the leading characters in Come Out of Your Coma. Of course, as I look over my shoulder, I see some of the cast of our senior play. Jimmy, Hilda, Johnny, and Olivia played the leading roles. Now I see Marion Grissom and Kyle Josey, our mascots. Mr. Hopkins and Mrs. Duckworth were our efficient and helpful sponsors. They advised us in all our activities, social and scholastic. Here come Becky and Eleanor, editors of our annual. Now I have a glimpse of our Junior-Senior Banquet. The cafeteria was gay that night with Oriental mofit. That was an occasion we will never forget. Then there were to be the junior -senior banquet, Washington-New York trip, final examinations, and commencement. I. 1. I. 1. I. I. I. 1. 1. 1. I. 1. I. Prophecy Seniors, I have been standing out here in this field alone for a long time, and Ihave had time to watch the heavens. Ihave gazed at the church steeples etched against the sky, I have watched the planes and the birds sailing among the fleecy cloudsg I have watched the leaves in the wind, and I have seen the huge pages of the pictures framed in the sky, so I have been able to follow your fu- ture lives. Johnny, as president of the senior class you have been a sky pilot, but that will not be your oc- cupation in life. I see you beneath the dome of our national capitol. You are junior senator from your state and you have made great contributions to your nation and state. With you are two efficient stenographers, Sylvia and Nannie. They enjoy life in the natlon's first city. Also, I see Eleanor act- ing as the social secretary for the president's wife. Donald Ross, I see the top of a skyscraper in your life. Yes, I see you and Leslie at your desks. You are the owners of this big office building as well as the architects of it. In your architectural business you have many assistants, Brenda McLendon, Benny, and Jimmie are all prominent in de- signing hospitals and schools. Now, I see a great plane as it wings its way westward. Raymond and W. B. are no doubt in that plane, as they are transconrinental pilots between the United States and South America. They are looking after their oil interests. With them are their wives, Wilsie and Flora lane. Their stewardesses are Olivia and Carolyn Whitley. I understand they occasionally take with them on their trips their friends who also have business abroad. Fay and Barbara are buyers for Macy's in New York. Movie magnates, Charles, Emory, and Bruce travel in their planes to and from New York. Quite often the actresses, Doris Maness and Pauline, travel with them. Speaking of actresses, I see the six noted ballet dancers: Brenda Price, Judy, Hilda Beeson, Carolyn Byrd, and Carol Honeycutt. They are in the famous ballet, The Silver Lining, now on the stage in person on Broadway. There is a great hospital. Donald Russell and Thomas Smith are in the operating room. Both are capable and distinguished surgeons. In thishospital are also efficient nurses, Hilda Whitley and Janet. Sue Poplin is superintendent of nurses. Lonnie and Billy are politicians and lawyers. Oh, yes, guess 'who is North Carolina's first lady? Why, Becky, of course. And I see the top of a silo at a dude ranch in the west. I find the owners are Wade, Bobby Hin- son, and R. B. I understand they have one of the most prosperous places in all the west. Their cow- boys are Gary, Larry Hatley, and Bobby Deese. Thomas McSwai.n is head of their rodeo. Another place of interest is a tall bank building with many offices. I see the bank president, Darol. Larry Boles is working there as cashier. The tellers are Carol Russell, Myrtle, James, and Larry Smith. Sue Storey is working in the office of the supreme court, and Marlene is stenographer for a judge of the circuit court. Good luck, seniors, all. Have your dreams and always look for the silver lining.
