Marks 52 years of Progress in Secondary Educational Standards and 75 years of Civic Advancement. ZQPAS man has progressed through time, the result of his progress has been evi- dent in the works of his hands. Seventy- five years of community progress in Irwin has left no doubt of the truth of that state- ment. Irwin, at its incorporation in 1864, was a small, typical, Civil War town. A hotel, a few stores, and, important to any town in 1834, a blacksmith and harness shop, comprised the main street. This street, which was the finest in town, pre- sented difficulties to horses and drivers in snow or rainy weather. Bordering the main street were a few residential homes and on surrounding hills were many large farms. The homes and buildings for the most part were of wood or rough hewn logs. The hands of man have, through his progress in education and intellectual training, moulded Irwin from a town into a modern community. The harness shop has been replaced by the garage, the muddy road by the concrete highway and well paved street, and the rough looking wood buildings by modern brick and con- crete structures. Saturday night tinds the streets crowded, not with the farmers as in 1864 but with business men and oflice workers whose thoughts and ideas have materially changed. Through this change in thoughts and ideas by living in a progressive com- munity has come the greatest change in 75 years of progress -civic pride.
