TRAINING At last we were Upper Middlers! No more did we have to bear the wounds of the slings and arrows of two upper classes. For now we were one of those upper classes. And with this honor came a building of our own - the Manual Training Building. Here was our base of operations for our Upper Middle year. The M.T., as its name implies, is used to house the manual training classes - woodworking, machine shop, mechanical drawing, and printing. Our print shop, the oldest affiliated with a high school in the United States, prints our Red and White, the Pilot, the programs for the various events in Slater Hall, tickets for the different athletic events, and the numerous slips necessary to the everyday life of N.F.A. Downstairs one may hear the constant hum of the motors working in the machine shop, the whine of the power saws in woodworking, and the buzz of activity in mechanical drawing. The Manual Training Building was erected in 1896, and is the third oldest build- ing on campus. It originally housed the Commercial Department until the erection of the present Commercial Building in 1933. Now it provides classrooms for academic subjects in addition to Industrial Arts.
