All of us who have contributed to the 1970 Yearbook see in our minds the reality of this year through a collage of pictures and impressions. Transforming these various pictures and impressions into concrete form has been the task of the staff. You who glance at the yearbook, too, have in mind a particular image of the year. It is our hope that our version of HA minute of life passing.H is yours also and is one that captures the essence of your experiences. Dianne Russell Photographers skulking down the hallway, darting in out of my classes and rehearsals, taking pictures I fear may turn up in the yearbook, and Hwould - you mind writing - a - comment - for - the - yearbook - we - need - it - today?H are the only things I personally known about the 1970 Yearbook. Rumors of power struggles, artistic dissension, and bad tempers, as well as those of hard work, long hours, and delightful photography have reached my ears. I am not sure who they all are, but this yearbook owes thanks to a small group of people who did more than their share in attempting to make a creative yearbook while satisfying the student body's desire for conservative content Barbara Epstein La construction d'un annuaire doit etre la construction d'un oeuvre d'artg c'est-E-dire, il doit exister seul, parlui-meme, sans regard pour les gens qui le lisent. C'eSt un grand probleme pour un oeuvre avec un Sujet tellement personnel, qu'il faut vendre. Ellen Brockman To what consequence is my committment to the yearbook? Might I just as well contemplate my navel? Clark Maglathlin

7 i 14,4 If in fact any significant events did occur at Norwell High School in 1970, then they might be found somewhere in this book. That which has made all the work we put into this book worth our while, though, has little to do with the events which have occured in the past year. The entire yearbook ordeal we have all been through has been significant primarily as a learning experience. Some of us have learned how to develop film, others have met new friends, some of us have experienced the satisfaction of accomplishment after endless hours of work, and everyone has learned something deeper about himself. We have all been painfully reminded of the necessity of a unified group effort if anything significant is to be achieved. Before any photographs were taken, we decided that we wanted the yearbook to have several qualities. First of all, we wanted it to be a yearbook consisting of memorable photographs of people in action. We realized that we would be able to be artistic only through photography which could be taken on a literal level. We have put our creative and artistic goals in perspective as tools used in making a unique and more interesting yearbook. Our top priority has been to make a a yearbook which is more than a mere collage of photographs and white space, and our foremost committment has been to the great majority of readers who have clearly expressed their wishes of having what may safely be called a 'traditional' yearbook. Glenn Milliken Our ideal has been budding artists trying our best to make a yearbook and not students trying to make an artist's manual. 1970 Norwell High School Yearbook Staff The portrayal of the many facets of the student-faculty life during an entire school year is a task which can only be be accomplished through many hours of tedious labor. Once a group of people had assumed the responsibility of creating this portrait, they have, in fact, assumed the responsibility of pro- ducing a comprehensive study which encompasses the many levels of individuals' lives as students, teachers, administrators, and people. A yearbook should be an organized personal work consisting of candid shots of the school community as it struggles through its mundane, day to day existence. In this sense, the 1970 Yearbook, presented in the form of a conservative annual and including not only traditional pictures of seniors, underclassmen, sports and clubs, but more so, candid informal shots of the actual school year, can be considered an accomplishment. laughter runs across my pain slips away, but comes again school is like the rain Jaqueline Morrisey A yearbook tries to do just what the name suggests. It should reflect the year as the staff sees it. Unfortunately it is difficult to produce a book that satisfies BVGIYOHS. As a result, the 1970 Yearbook is a combination of the '68 and '69 yearbooks an some new ideas of our own. Mike Perry Being a member of the 1970 Yearbook staff has been a real experience for me - a learning experience as well as a fun one. Since I started this fall I've tried my hand at almost everything that goes into a yearbook. I've learned something about almost everything that makes a yearbook. I've also learned a lot about the kind of people it takes to make a yearbook what it is. In the begining of the year we had many problems to resolve. We had to decide exactly what ouryearbookshould consist of. It seemed also that we were the victims of the controversy raised over the 1969 Yearbook. We received much criticism from many people, and not much constructive help from anybody. Some of the opposition will never be realized by anyone other than the immediate staff, but despite our problems, I feel we have produced a fine yearbook. It will be a long timebeforea comparable can be produced. Our yearbook means a lot to us in many ways. I can only hope that it will mean as much to all of you. Randy Prouty I feel no commitment towards the yearbook at all since I feel that it is unnecessary. Memories should be kept in one's mind, not in a book. Mike Stella
