I would like to have you cowpsre the builflng of Q ship to education. If Q ship had nothing more done to it after it left the ways, the ship would not be com- plete. As a result of this system, the student learns to speak and understand the language before he attempts to read and write it. In the language laboratory, the students receive constant drilling in the sounds and forms of the language through the help of tape recordings. The ultimate goal of the department is to build a library consisting of numerous tape recordings which would permit students to use the laboratory whenever they felt the need of extra drill. rigs. ,',-.nw 1 1' I . , 5 x 1 . i MRS. Each year a boy is elected by his class- mates to attend an eight-day conference at the Univer- sity of Massachusetts. Here he participates not only in a wide variety of sports andisocial activities but is taught the parliamentary procedures of town, city and state government. Campaign rallies and conven- tions are held throughout the week. It is at this time that every boy has equal opportunities to express him- self by petition and campaign speeches. ln addition, all boys are required to take either a citizenship or law course which is administered by capable teachers. Boys' State is, indeed. a worthwhile experience for all who wish to better understand the meaning of true democracy. Girls' State is a practical application of ,'XlllCI'lCLlIl- ism and good citizenship. The entire program is a non-partisan. non-political attempt to teach and in- culcate in the youth of America a love of Cod and Country. Nlassachusetts Girls' State is part of the nation-wide program of the American Legion Auxil- iary. The purpose of Girls' State is to provide citizen- ship training for girls of high school age in every constituent department of the :Xmerican legion fluxil- iary: to afford them an opportunity to liye together as self-governing citizens: to inform them about the duties. privileges. rights and responsibilities of Anteri- can citizenship. in order that they may understand and participate in the functioning of their gl0YCl'IlI1ltFIll. and to help them grasp the meaning of some of the respon- sibilities which they must assume when they become adults.
