I . I s ur I I and was living in Reno, Nevada, Susan Henderson was a member of the personnel department of Billy Meacham's accident insurance company, and Elaine Heredeen was working as an usherette in a downtown theater where Steve M0tt's newest picture, The Fourth Return of Tarzan, had just premiered. Late that aftemoon I returned to my Long Island home and turning on my television I saw that Ruth Laing was the star of a new soap opera, Bringing Up Ernie. Planning for my trip to Boston, I phoned Idlewild Airport for a reservation on an early moming plane and in a matter of conversation I discovered that the reservation agent was Suzanne Millette. At the airport the next morning I encountered Donald Messinger who was on his way to scale Mt. Everest and Congresswoman Grace Mudge who was returning from the White House. Our charming stewardess was Carol Para- dise who informed me that Jimmy Power would be the pilot on this flight. During the trip I noticed two friendly looking young clergyman carrying on a very funny conversation behind a newspaper, Overhearing them I knew they could be none other than Jimmie Alward and Dan O'Leary and I joined in their gay talk. The plane soon landed at Boston's Logan Airport where I met Marjorie Cavanaugh, now a lieutenant in the Waves. A blue cab screeched to a stop and a loud voice exclaimed, Hop in, lady ! --Kevin Corbett was the operator. Proceeding toward the Statler Hotel, Kevin waved to a police sergeant whom I discovered to be John Banks. Entering the Statler I glanced around the lobby and noticed an advertisement publicising the appearance of the famous comedian Eric Hager who was starring in the Sky Room of the Statler. As I registered I found the desk clerk to be Frank Pompeo. Frank told me that Mike Edmonds was the hotel's maitre de. The next morning, not wishing to leave my suite, I phoned room service to deliver atempting breakfast, Within five minutes there was a light tap at my door, upon opening it in walked Steve Cayon, the hotel manager, personally delivering my tray of toast, coffee, juice, and eggs. Later Dave Marland called to say he would meet me in the lobby in an hour, at which time we would journey to Norwell. David 's shiney Corvette, which he had purchased from Grohe Motors owned by classmate Steve Grohe, im- pressed me. During our speedy ride to Norwell, David informed me of the whereabouts of several members of our class whom he had located. David Sletner was working at the United States Embassy in Argentina and Susan Housley had entered the business world as a travel agent. She had her main office in Paris, France, where she had seen Sue Jordan on 3 vacation from her teaching duties. John Standish was in California working as an aeronauti- cal engineer. Reaching Norwell we stopped at Gaudette's for gas, and to my surprise I found Peter Gaudette now a specialist in auto-body repairs. Arriving at our old alma mater we entered the spacious office of the principal, Charlotte Muzrall. After a tour of the building we decided to explore the outdoor athletic facilities where the an- nual field day was underway. The physical education instructor we noted was our class's OIympic champion Kathy McGuire. At Rice's we were served a cup of coffee by Kathy Osborne, another fellow graduate, who told us that Roberta Cushing was the proprietor of a chain of Snow Clean Laundries. On our way to Boston we passed the establishments of Peter Rosa, now a carpenter, and Mike Philalas, who had expanded his father's business. After David and I had enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Jimmy's Harborside where Nor- man Swain was head chef, I thanked David for his assistance and proceeded toward Iordan's for a fashion show before returning to New York. The clothes modeled were called Sportswear for a Sunny Day and had been de- signed by Beverly Virta, a prominent fashion designer. Janice Folsom served as moderator at the event and Nancy Hewitt was a model. Aboard the plane to New York I met Bea Smith, now a bio-chemist working for the Govemment. Three weeks later on June 7, 1971, the members of my graduating class were assembled at my home reminis- cing about former school days and remarking about the pleasurable experiences each had had thus far in his exciting career. 27
