CLASS HISTORY Our memories of elementary school days consist of the fun and excitement of play indispersed with dim recollectior of a few hours spent in study. In an atmosphere of creaky pipes and hot soup, which the two primary schools pro- vided, we explored DICK AND JANE sagas and that wonderful Jolly Numbers workbook. In January of our first year, the two schools converged into the new elementary school on Main Street. Here we delighted in investigating the big rock, playing on the jungle gyms and swings, and battling in red rover and gang fights. The school ye ar was marked with big events: the visit of the handwriting teacher, days when favorite toys were per- mitted, and East egg coloring day. Surely no one can forget selling seeds every spring--most parents took the whole box just to end the issue. The big reward for selling all twenty packages was a free package for yourself. We celebrated each holiday with a gala party--Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day: these events were mainly a contest of one's eating ability. Class trips were eagerly looked forward to but the majority of our plans failed to materialize, We made a great march to Homestead Farm in the first grade and toured the Children's Museum in the fourth grade. In our fifth year we migrated from the gym and the cafeteria of the elementary school to the high school where we at once became the objects of great jokes. Withstanding our trial period at the big school, we passed into the sixth grade where we avidly studied Greek and Roman architecture, weather, and Amahl and the Night Visitors. Junior high school was quite a change! For the first time the bells took on meaning. Every forty-five minutes we had a few minutes to release all our pent-up energy while the teachers were changing rooms. On rainy days we had indoor recess and played the exciting game of hide the eraser. Friday afternoons hailed two exciting events. We had our weekly class meeting then, where the president would appoint weekly jobs such as desk-checkers, lunchroom and basement monitors and messenger. When this meeting adjourned, we broke into various hobby clubs of all interests, sports fone girl memberj, stamps, horses, and of course model airplanes. One Friday night of each term was devoted to our junior high school socials where the girls sat gazing starry-eyed at the boys across the gym. However, the boys prided themselves in dancing as little as possible, and Mr. Lindsey had to come to the rescue and take tums dancing with the girls. Sports played an important role during these two years. For the first time the junior high school had intramural basketball games in which all students took part. MI. lindsey coached a baseball team which, sad to say, won one lonely game. No one will deny that we were a fated class: as eighth-graders we had no graduation exercises and no class trip-- a field day compensated for the latter. With September of 1956, came the beginning of four more years of fun and study that would be, for many, the culmination of their school careers. By freshman tradition we were humiliated, initiated, and given the once over a hundred times. The boys lost the girls to the seniors but got them back as they became accepted and the novelty wore off. On the athletic courts we continued to prove our prowess. We have been the champs of every high school field day and intramural winners of basketball during our sophomore year. A majority of the Class has participated in some team sport and has proved us good winners and good sports. Fortunately the boys forgot their junior high socials and decided that girls weren't such bad medicine, We worked hard to revive the Sophomore Hop--thanks to Mrs. Sullivan's assistance. Although it rained and poured the night of our Junior Prom, the dance proved to be a wonderful success--our class boasted the smallest loss ever incurred by the Prom. Senior year is filled with dreams and hopes for the future. While everyone is looking towards next ye ar's experiences we still hang on to this year's fun as a wonderful climax to our twelve years of school. yX KW M u H 030 new N :QV-9f:YY U84 4-- TEACHER 1 'QQRR vs, 0,0 0 dx 6 sz F 196, 1+ S+ Q ' 0 2 :X gf 4, 41 . 465 Z, :J is 'V'-p' I 'I C H'-sr '-T X' Tiewfre dans lon Salle OKC ClC195e' 059 10
