Your 1959 Shipbuilder attempts to capture some of the spirit, some of the life, and some of the color of Norwell High School. This book is a col- lection of memories and we sincerely hope that in the years to come you will gain satisfaction by turning back these pages. If by doing so you relive just one treasured moment of your high-school days we shall be happy. At this time we should like to thank our staff and our advisor, Mrs. Charles Galley, who have worked untiringly to make these pages a reality. We now present your 1959 Shipbuilder. Lynne Covel Scott Babcock Co-Editors 2 Dedication To a man whose patience, understanding, and warm smile have served as an inspiration to us in our years at Norwell High School. His qualities of sportsmanship, leadership, and friendliness have endeared him to both the student body and the faculty alike. We hope that this dedication will show in some small way our appreciation for all that he has done for us. We, the class of 1959, wish to dedicate our Shipbuilder to Mr. Felix J. Dixon. 3 'W Mr. Clifton E. Bradley The Class of 1959 extend sincere appreciation to Superintendent Bradley and the school com- mittee for their part in making our attendance at Norwell High School both enjoyable and worth- while. The implication in this is that GROUP thinking and GROUP activity constitute the proper procedure in problem solving. There is much in a democratic society that requires consideration by groups. The verdict of a majority group determines the law of our land and decides upon the ones in political office who lead in the functions of government. The will and the way of the American pioneer, however, are still essential to progress in the affairs of our nation. We still need lonely and lonesome men and women who will think and work as individuals, apart from the crowd, The great accomplishments in any era have been rooted in ideas. Ideas are the products of people, in the singular sense, and not of groups or committees. May I challenge you at this time to dare to be yourselves. Work for the common good and in the interest of mankind, of course, but maintain your own identity. The herd instinct can reduce American culture to a common denominator. Don't get lost in the crowd. Make the world aware of your thoughts and your actions in a direct manifestation of YOUR OWN personality.
