PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE r- To the CLASS of 1955: As you leave these classrooms to find your divided ways leading into various fields of endeavor, I suggest that you survey the scene about you and make careful inventory of values. We are in grave danger today of letting slip from our hearts and minds the fundamental faith and fortitude of our founding fathers. The pioneering spirit of dare and do that made our country strong and great is too much a matter of history alone and not enough in way of current practice. A democratic society has been here established at too great a price and sacrifice to be sabotaged now from within our own ranks or to be stolen from us by bandit nations. Said John Stuart Mill several generations ago in words still true at this very day and hour: A people may prefer a free government, but if, from indolence, or careless- ness, or cowardice, or want of public spirit, they are unequal to the exertion necessary for preserving it . . . they are unlikely long to enjoy it. Do not delay, Class of 1955, in taking your place among those determined to defend and promote the qualities of dignity, strength, and virtue in these United States of America. Best wishes for continuing years of happiness and well-being.

Ross, hoping in this small way to show our deep appreciation of their enthusiastic and generous interest in our school. In their per- sonalities we found an inspiring mixture of understanding, patience, and humor. Their novel ideas and long hours of work resulted in lively and successful activities. Always quick to offer good suggestions and wise council, they encouraged us to be more creative and original. They under- Stood that 6'lIt'01'l7'!1g67lI6'lIf if !'l'L'zlfjI'6'.
