Within these pages we have caught glimpses here and there of events that happened during the journey through our last year of school. In later years, while turning these pages, if you should recall the many smiles, sorrows, and dreams of ' 59, we shall be content, knowing that we have done the things we were called upon to do. It is our hope that this book will be a treasured keepsake and will recall many happy occasions. PRESTON POPE, Editor-in-Chief Contents Our Gym Dedication We, the class of ' 59, proudly dedicate the first edition of the NORWAYNIAN to our principal whose skillful guidance and sym¬ pathetic understanding have been indispensable to the success we have so far achieved. To us he has been a leader and friend, one who was never too busy to help us solve our many problems. He has given us undying inspiration by making us aware of the need for making preparations for a changing world. May this dedication, in some small way, express our heartfelt gratitude to our beloved principal, Mr. J. H. Carney. Supervisor s Message Dear Principal, Faculty, and Students, We rejoice with you in the publication of your first yearbook and your first year at Norwayne School. This is a year to be cherished and remembered; you have traveled a great distance, but the goal has not been reached. Whatever changes the future may bring to Norwayne School, may we strive unceasingly to reach the goal and answer the challenge that it presents. Sincerely yours, Principal’s Message For the class of 1959, I pray God ' s blessings and guidance. Allow me at this time to congratulate you, the first senior class of Norwayne School, for this fine yearbook. I trust that it will act as a challenge to all of the classes following you. Let us hope and pray that it is the beginning of better accomplishments for those who may follow you. The world is in the midst of turmoil and hatred because group welfare has been put ahead of the welfare of all mankind. There is but one cur e for this condition: that is to put world citizenship above citizenship in any smaller group. Remember, The light thatshineth the farthest away from home makes the brightest light at home. Seniors, if in spirit you will be citizens of the world, you will automatically be better citizens of any group in which you are a member. Mv advice to you, there¬ fore, is Be cosmopolitan in spirit, believe in and practice the doctrine of the brother¬ hood of man. Again, I salute you, the seniors of 1959, and your fine and capable advisors. Faculty MISS D. J. EDWARDS Library English MRS. O. B. RAMOS English MISS M. L. HOSKINS English MRS. V. W.
