This season proved to be a very trying season for both the girls and the coach. Coach Lea had to rebuild her team this year due to the loss of seven seniors. The team was very inexperienced and young. Fortunately, next year shows promise due to the strong nucleus of the returning letter- men. (Connie Beichler, Michelle Franks, Jan- een Hitty, Stephanie King, Shari Lewis and Tammy Smith) The Bobcats will be saying good-bye to Angie Davis, Who was named to the all W.C.L. tea m her junior year, and to Denise Valentine who received Honorable Mention her senior year. Angie and Denise were both three year lettermen. Other Seniors were Kim Miller, Shawn Rastorfer Brown and Jill Miller. The 1983 Norwayne J. V. Volleyball team had a very productive season with a record of 8- 8 under new coach Jim Gleaner. The J. V. team shows great potential in future seasons. - ' What goes into building a team? Two students recognized as outstanding sports figures who also participated in many school organizations were faculty elected Doug Zimmerly and Jan Miller. These two were named The Daily Record Students of the Month for the month of January. Doug was the Class President through all 4 years of high school, had 3 varsity football 2 varsity basketball and 3 varsity track letters, served on the prom committee his Junior year and served 3 year terms as president of the F.F.A. and so on! Jan was a member of the Student Council and served as Vice-President her senior year, had 2 varsity letters in basketball, and was a member of Norwayne ' s pep club. Jan also was an officer in the National Honor Society. Fun 97 Before the season started, Daily Record Sports Editor Brian Questel wrote abo ut a cer- tain blue and white-clad girls ' basketball team. In the article, he stated, If ever a league cham- pionship chase has been over before the bell rang, it ' s this year as the Chipps close in on their fifth consecutive WCL crown. When the season ended, Doylestown ' s girls had indeed finished in first place. However, they didn ' t get there easily, and they weren ' t alone at the top . . . Hello, Norwayne! Your faces may be new, but you sure can play the game! It was a good year — 18 wins in 23 tries, 13- 1 in league. Everyone got to play a lot; in fact, every girl played in every game, and eight girls started at least twice. The offensive average of 60.6 ppg was the area ' s best. That ' s not bad, considering our area included the 1 and 2 teams in the state! Everyone got in on the act: Seven girls scored in double figures at least three times; four (Kim Miller, Lynne Uhler, Ronnie Napier, and Stephanie King) enjoyed 20 point games. Lynne — That ' s Lynne with an e on the end — made All County First team; Kim was Player of the Year! Highlights? Well, how about that school record 102 points vs. Hillsdale? Or would you prefer taking your passion and making it hap- pen (48 to 44) at Doylestown? Some said we performed at a level far beyond expectations. So we did. Yet we always knew a little faith and a lot of hustle would take us a long way! FFA Banquet 133 Seniors Lead Team to 3rd In County The 1984 Norwayne Boys Track Team was composed mostly of underclassmen and three key seniors, Larry Booth, Steve Kimble, and Scott Moyer. Despite the fact that most mem- bers had little experience, the team sprinted to a 3rd place county league finish and a 4-1 dual meet record, demolishing arch-rival Doyles- town, Dalton, and Rittman, and falling only to county champion Smithville. The importance of senior leadership was especially apparent dur- ing the Hillsdale meet, when a pep talk allowed the team to rally behind to victory. Individual efforts took 3 competitors to the regional meet: Larry Booth, with a school record long jump of 2V 8 3 4 , and an 11.3 clocking in the 100 meter dash: Chad Glanco ' s personal best of 12 ' 0 in the pole vault: Tim Kowalczyk ' s 40.7 300 Meter Hurdles time. The cast of 42 had much of which to be proud; both nights, the auditorium was filled to capacities which rose to standing ovations. Heading the talented cast was Lisa Allen, who starred as the efferves- cent real-life Maria Von Trapp, a role which took her from a tomboyish postulant to a wife and mother of seven children. Maria ' s husband, Captain Georg Von Trapp, was a part which allowed Ryan Wertz to display his acting and singing talents. Holly Gray as Liesl and Christo- pher Hanzie as Rolf played the young lovers torn apart by political differences. Brenda Eberly played the Mother Superior who advised Maria to Climb Ev ' ry Mountain. Comic relief was provided by Ron White as Max Detweiler and Paula Russell as the lovely villainess, Elsa. The Von Trapp children were; Holly Gray — Liesl, Jeff Geiger — Friedrich, Janie Graham — Louisa, Doug Bertdorf — Kurt, Barb Shue — Brigetta, Erin Balsat — Marta, Rebecca Swartz — Gretl Other members of the cast acted as Nazi guards, or were members of the stunning nun ' s chorus. All in all, the cast gave two outstanding performances, leaving many people from the audience with the thought that they had seen the best Norwayne production in years. by the Herff-Jones Publishing Company of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The sales representative was Bob Bouchard. There are two hundred and four copy pages with sixteen being full color pages and eight being spot color. The Norview uses Bordeaux one-hundred weight paper for all of its pages. The type sizes used were eight point for captions, ten point for copy, eighteen point for sub-headlines, and thirty point for headlines. All copy printed in Cloister Italic with headlines in Bold Italic. The 1984 Norview was a school designed, custom embossed cover with a mission grain and black overtone rub applied. Endsheets were school designed and printed in black ink over a gray base. Norwayne students shot the majority of photos used. Senior pictures and special events were taken by Friends and Contemporary Studios. .V  W x 4s ■«,« to 1
