You are completing thirty'-one years of teach- ing. and that alone is worthy of recognition. It must lw with a great deal of satisfaction that you look upon the hundreds of students in whose growth you have had a part. This is the sixth volume of our yearbook that you have superyised. and we of the Staff now appreciate what endless hours of work and countless details go into such a publication. You have spent your entire life on the home farm and fit in well with our theme of useedtime and harvest. You say that in this theme you represent the weather: the storm clouds, the rumhles of thunder. and the flashes of light- ning. But you also symbolize the refreshing rain and the warm sunshine. Those little words of humor and wisdom that you are in the habit of writing on the black- board each day are a source of enjoyment and inspiration to all who enter your classroom. So it is for many reasons. you see, that We dedicate this Norview to you. It is one of the best ways wc know of saying 'gthanlc youf, 'CAS ye sow. so shall ye reapi' and we wish for you an abundant harvest. Yearbook Staff and Class of 1959 Q -.?l. . Y , . This was a de- crease of only nine from the number that had enrolled as freshmen. During these years we have gained consid- erable knowledge in many fields, and we have also made an effort to cultivate the virtues of good character and of good citizenship. With blood, sweat, and tears , especially during this Betty Christian an W- Vice-President last year, we have worked on numerous financial projects to make our dream of a class trip come true. We picked up potatoes fgroansj, washed cars, had paper drives, and sold various useful articles. Now the time for graduation is here. We are closing the chapter of our life here at Norwayne, but we are just beginning a new chapter in a promising tomorrow. We have fond memories of the past and ambitious hopes for the future. meef we Seniora 1959-H Byron Barnes Mary Bauman Carole Beery Edward Begert ,lane Riggenbach --, .... Under the expert direction of Mr. Woodring, they have novel football shows, annual spring and winter concerts, and compete in music con- tests. Cordon Welty and David McCoy are the scholastic students who received a rating in the 99th and 98th percentile, respectively, on the Merit Scholarship Test which they took in April 1958. Of the 47,800 students in the United States who took this test, Gordon is one of 10,000 finalists. Gordon also tied for sixth place in the county in the Senior Scholarship tests this year with a score of 212. In this same test David was in the top 25 per cent. Gordon has been accepted to continue his education at the Case Institute of Technology and David plans to enroll at Baldwin-Wallace College. Jan Hower, Julia Fouche, and Carol Irvin all received key awards in the Northeast Ohio Art Contest sponsored by O'Neils of Akron. Their art work is on display at that store. Our opening games were with larger schools and we were not expecting too much, but even at that the three Hgoose eggsw were discouraging. The Bobcats continued to fight it out. however, and scored in all succeeding games. Although we were not often in the win column, we saw some fine football, running, passing, and groundwork. The Reserve scoreboard may not look as we would like to see it, but we must remember that these boys have had very little experience. It takes years of practice and participation to develop real football technique. And that is what school athletic programs are for - to teach technique, develop skill, and cultivate teamwork. For the first time, Norwayne had a Junior High team this year under the coaching of Mr. Moser and Mr. Ritchie. They won three games and lost four. The high school teams should benefit greatly from this newly inaugurated program. e.4erve.4 Some g gfcome unify pzzgera - Front, Left to Right: Tony Yarman, Tom Smeller, Joe Dinghey, Roger Ammon, Dan Ferguson, Fred Kreider.
