Time for Teachers M rf? and Those Taught M Pm. Since the beginning of public education in Norwalk, the high school has been housed in four different build- ings. After the passage of the Akron School Law in 1847, citizens of Norwalk voted in April, 1850, to adopt the Union School System. At that time classes were held in a building known as the Institute, built in 1838 and occupying the same site as the present high school. The old Central building was constructed in 1884 and served as a high school until 1938. In 1919 a brick building was constructed. It was known then as Norwalk Community High School and is now infor- mally called the Cole building. In 1938 the Central building was torn down and construction of the present high school was begun.
