SECOND ROW: Dennis Lancaster, Paul Vernon, Marion McKay, Joyce Ann Black, Lynn Robbins, Danny Onstot, Martin Hildreth, Ronnie Balducki. THIRD ROW: Mrs. Kaldenberg, Roy Tharp, Tommy Hughes, Larry Bishop, Steve Connell, Bobby Anderson, Joe Dilley, Bobby Coughennower, Steve Leonard. ABSENT: Charles Huff. We started the year with an enrollment of eleven girls and fifteen boys. After the first six weeks, Randy Gooch transferred to Martensdale. To date Cheryl Huff and Linda Trent have been perfect in attendance. Some of our parties during the year were at Halloween time, at Christmas, and also a Valentine party. We like school very much especially our reading classes. We dramatize many of our stories. The units we have enjoyed the most are Post Office unit and the toy unit. Our birthdays give us a thrill because we get to be King or Queen for the day. We love to wear our crown decorated with a pretty birthday cake with candles on it. Our room mothers have been very cooperative and helpful with Mrs. Connell as chairman.

Second Grade FIRST ROW: Robert Dash, Joyce Henry, Carol Kokke, Ann Ellsworth, Susan Peterson, Patty Masteller, Andy Houghton, Harrison Cass. SECOND ROW: Mrs. Hankins, Dennis Isley, Lyle Cheers, Joe Bailiff, Edwin Bowles, Robert Haus, Carl Black, John Cline, Larry Kropf, William Cooper. Twelve boys and five girls enrolled in our class in September 1955. Dee Ann Day left us at the end of the first five weeks and moved to Des Moines. Joyce Henry and Susan Neely joined our group the first of December. Both girls came from Des Moines. Susan has since movedback to Des Moines. This leaves us with same number we had when school started. Patty Masteller, Carl Black, Edwin Bowles, and Robert Haus, have perfect attendance for the first semester. Susan Petersen and Andy Houghton have not been absent. In the fall we observed fire prevention week. After learning about fire trucks and fire prevention from books, we visited our local fire station. Later we made a trip to Des Moines and visited a station there. Both trips were educational as well as entertaining. One of the most interesting units we have worked on this year is transporation. Some very good pictures of all kinds of transportation were exhibited, dating from the earliest to the most modern. Lyle Cheers and Dennis Isley each made a chuck wagon. Ly1e's was all wood, with solid wooden wheels. Some of the boys made boats. As a climax to our unit we arranged an exhibit of cars, airplanes, boats, trains, wagons sleds, etc. We invited the other grades in our building to visit the exhibit. We all feel we have learned a great deal about transportation.
