Fourth Grade FIRST ROW: Johanna Pray, Charlotte Ellis, Marie Cheers, Delaine Bishop, Mary Forsythe, Judy Stark, Cris Parker, Betty Lou Robinson. SECOND ROW: John Delong, Dennis Patterson, Judy Law, Janet Casady, Linda Kokke, Christine Moomaw Donald Tharp, John Haus, Miss Davidson. ABSENT: Judith Hildreth. At present we have seventeen pupils four of whom are boys. During the semester we have lost two pupils Jimmy Day, who moved to Des Moines and is now attending the Philips School and Sharon Gooch who moved to Martensdale. Our new pupil is Judy Law, who enrolled January the sixteenth. She comes from Hartford. During the year we have entertained our mothers, put on a Halloween program for the lower grades of the west building, at Christmas time we presented the, Birds Christmas Carol to the grades in our east building. We were happy to accept the invitation of the Home for the Blind to entertain them with a Christmas Program. We will always remember that Christmas means-- Not what we give but what we share, for the gift without the giver is bare.

Fourth Grade FIRST ROW: Steven Becker, Marsha Berriman, Barbara Smith, Julie Huff, Suzette Stephens, Carol Kropf, Nancy Bartholomew, Deva Ricks, Marilyn Beck, Casey Kazebeer. SECOND ROW: Judy Walker, Andrea Kisor, Joy Miller, Thomas Eischeid, Santha Dougherty, John Ellsworth, Judy Bishop, Martha Cooper, Mrs. Johnson. This fourth grade room began the school year by starting out with eighteen people. During this semester we had one boy Alan Neeley, come into our room. We enjoyed having Alan here, although he wasn't here very long. He moved back to Des Moines before the end of the semester. We have learned to divide, do harder addition and subtraction in our arithmetic. We've also learned many things about other things, other countries, and peoples of many lands through the study of science, history, geography, and social studies. In spelling we've spent many an interesting and informative hour in our books, and the Blue Contest Speller. In competition with Miss Davidson's room, we have had a spelling contest almost every week with words chosen from the blue speller. The worlds have ranged in difficultyfrom third to fifth grade. There have been two prizes each time, a first and a second. Prizes have been books, diaries, valentines, styrofoam tree decorations, and various other things.

Third G FIRST ROW: Cheryl Knapp, Janet Courtney, Dianna Chapman, Gloria Fleming, Suzanne Lawyer, Ronda Weaver, Marsha Overholser, Jane Hughes, and Connie Meyer. SECOND ROW: Mrs. Hirsch, James Walsh, Lynette Hildreth, Patty Dilley, Alan Hukle, Anna Bowles, Trudy Pace, and Mary Vernon. THIRD ROW: Larry Zeliadt, William Tovrea, Donald Coughennower, Ronnie Dirksen, David Johnson, Charles Robinson, Dennis Huff, and Tommy Hermann. ABSENT: Janice Onstot We started our school year with an enrollment of twenty-seven girls and boys, Carol Coleman moved October 14 to Truro, Iowa. Delos Bailey moved to Des Moines, Iowa. We have worked on several units during the school year. The first unit was on sounds all around us. Another unit was on simple machines. We correlated the units with spelling, language, reading and art, The following pupils had perfect attendance the first semester: Marsha Overholser, Jane Hughes, James Walsh and RonnieDirksen. We have all learned to square dance. We enjoyed it very much. Mrs. 'Iovera our room mother and her assistants, consisting of all our mothers, have done many nice things to help with such activities as weighing and measuring the children, as well as serving treats-for our parties.
