Typists CLASS HISTURY Thirty-two quiet little freshman, fifteen girls and seventeen boys silently slipped into their seats on August 31, 1953, breathed a sign of relief and launched their high school career. The class officers for this group were President Marvin Rinard and Jimie Damron in their respective Home Rooms.. We lost Jimmy Robbins and gained Janice Cameron of Indianola who became a class member in March, 1954. When we started our Sophomore year we had some new class members. Jean Iager entered from Thomasville, Georgia, Mary Lou Penick, from Waukee and Norman Paulson from Des Moines. Class officers for the year were President Jerry Patten, Vice President Bill Kroll, Secretary Judy Croft and Treasurer Carol Hildreth. We lost Carol Hildreth who moved to Osceola in the spring. Jean lager also left going to New Orleans, Louisiana. The Junior year found the class enrollment totalled twenty-nine members. Clark Harmon moved to Waukee, Norman Paulson and Rus sell Tassin to Des Moines and Mary Lou Penick to St. Charles. Other losses included William Kroll who joined the army, Dean Harvey who joined the navy, and Donald Rhiner who did not return to school. We sponsored the Homecoming Dance in November and used the proceeds to finance the Junior-Senior banquet which was held at the Fort Des Moines Hotel on April 9. The class officers during our Junior year were President Jimie Damron, Vice President Judy Croft, Secretary Betty Miller, Treasurer Betty Hirsch, and Reporter Anne Harvey. Our fourth and final year at Norwalk High School started on August 31, 1955. Our class total was now twenty-six and in January of 1956 Nancy McEnroe came to us from St. Cecelias in Algona. Our class officers for our final year were President Dennis Harkins, Vice President Charles Brick, Secretary Karen Ellis and Treasurer Carol Weaver. Quite a few mem- bers of our class were taking part in the various school activities of basketball, softball, baseball, vocal and instrumental music and Declamatory work. We were royally treated by the Juniors on April twenty-first and we do want to thank them for a wonderful time. The Seniors know that the four years of High School seem a very short period of time. We have our class play to present on April 26 and 27. Baccalaureate services will be held on May 13 and Commencement Exercises on May 18, 1956. Thus another class will join the ranks of the Alumni of Norwalk High School. CLASS PROPHEC Y TIME: 1970 As we were walking along the streets of Norwalk we failed to locate anyone of our 1956 graduating class. We decided to take a trip trying to locate them. As we boarded the bus to Chicago who should we meet but Charles Brick driving his famous jet-propelled Greyhound bus. When we arrived in Chicago we stopped at the Elrancho nightclub owned by the now famous Songsters , Brightman and Terry. lNancy and Junel. You would never imagine who we saw under the spotlight, Judy Croft singing her heart out for her bandleader husband, Jimie Damron, directing his all girl orchestra. And glancing around the room who should we see but Anne Harvey, now famous for taking over Grace Kelly's movie career while Grace is happily married in Monaco. Anne is not alone however, she is holding hands with J. Ernest Breeding. Heis noted for broadcasting at state fairs all over the country. Rumors are that they are engaged. As we leave Chicago on the ENDS airlines there was our old classmate Janice Cameron as stewardess. Of course she is not taking care of her passengers. She is in the front of the plane making love to the pilot. lDavej On our way to Florida our airplane developed engine trouble. We were grounded in the hills of Kentucky. We happened to hear a little put put and who should it be but Carol Weaver and Junior Fleming with their fourteen little Flemings. They were going to the next little town to do their weekly shopping. The engine of theplane was soon fixed by our woman mechanic Nancy McEnroe and again we were on our way to Florida. ln Florida we came upon the Honeymooners lDale Moser and Beverly Morsel. How did you hook him Bev ? On the rest of our trip we will go by car, of course we have our special chauffeur, Ruth Ann Berry. She is a famous hot rod driver. We stopped for gas in a little out of the way filling station and who was the owner but Jack Lane. He received his experience at Bill's. Jack told us that if we were going down Texas way to look up Ivyl Moore. He has made his career in the National Guard. His rank is now standing at Major and he drives a big Buick. We heard along the way, from a little bird, that Doc lDennis Cunninghaml has received his L,,D. lLazy Doctor! degree and is taking over Dr. Winters veterinarian practive in Norwalk. It is rumored that Joan Haines is his very capable assistant. She always wanted to be a Butcher. This little bird also passed along this information: Jerry Patten has settled down to an easy life in that booming town of Cumming. It seems he struck oil in a certain Shirley's back yard. We stopped at Pheonix and saw Mrs. Larry Haines, QKaren Ellisl with her husband while he was stationed there. From the looks of things she is having quite a life. Up California way, we saw Betty Hirsch vacationing with her handsome millionaire husband in their 1970 Cadillac. Betty passed it on to us that since Joy McAninch has finally gotten married to her King, and she is editor of a magazine called Forlorn Hearts. As we go along up the coast we see a big Pizza Sign. Liking pizza and because it is so rare in Washington, of course we -stop. You guessed it, Judy Casady and Marvin Rinard have started up their own Pizza house. We asked Marvin and Judy if they had heard any news from Iowa and they told us that Dennis Harkin is flying jets in South America. He is really rolling in the I guess. We met the King of the Hobos Jack Beery along the rails in Wyoming. I-Ie is really doing a great thing for all Hobos with his millions since he has been elected King. But there is one 1956 graduate that we have not met up with, Betty Miller. Jack said he was just through Norwalk and he stopped to get a real home cooked meal and there she was living on a farm north of Norwalk. This seems unusual because when she was in school she declared she would never live on a farm. I guess things have changed a little, haven't they. In student council there are two elections per year, each at the end of each semester. Each member elected to the council serves for two semesters, thus half of the membership is carried over from semes- ter to semester. All activities such as student dances, homecoming and color day festivities, campaigns and elections are supervised by the student council. At Christmas time the council supervised and sponsored the outdoor Nativity scene and the High School Christmas Party. The council also collected contributions for the Annual Care Package. A delegation from the student council was sent to Ames for the State Convention and another delegation will be sent to the District Convention in April. In April of this year the student council helped put on a talent show sponsored by KIOA by supervising and managing the sale of tickets. STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS President . .........
