DEDICATION We, the students of Norwalk High School, the youngest school in the district, dedicate this, our first yearbook, to the Superintendent of Excelsior Union High School District, Mr. Ralph F. Burnight. It is fitting that we should do so, for this is the last year that Mr. Burnight will be associated with the district. He is leaving us to become Superintendent of the new Junior College District. It is also fitting that we here call attention to the accomplishments of Mr. Burnight during the years he has been a part of the Excelsior District. This began in 1924 when he became a teacher and vice-principal of the new high school district. Six years later he was appointed principal and superintendent. The latter position he has held until this year, a period of twenty seven years. During this time the district has grown from an enrolment of 300 students to one of 5000. In 1933 the tragic earthquake seriously damaged Excelsior High School and several buildings had ro be rebuilt. In 1950 Bellflower High School was built. Four years later Artesia High School was begun and finally in 1956 our school was opened. It is in recognition of these accomplishments that we, the student body of Norwalk High School, are proud and honored to be able to dedicate this first EL LANCERO to Mr. Burnight, and we sincerely thank him for his loyal and dedicated service to us and to our district.
