Foul on number 13. . . basket gooood! Number 55, stop pushing under the boards! Sit down coach, l'm refereeing this game, not you! . . . Enthusiasm and despair is what the 1970-71 basketball season was all about. The despair of the season was the many close games that the Pilot cagers lost in the last few seconds of the games. The potential of the team was overwhelming, but the record shows otherwise. The pilots started off the season with a decisive victory over the Wilson Presidents. The next week the Pilots stayed home to host Norfolk Christian. After this loss the Pilots turned it on and romped past the Granby Comets. A few days later they squeezed by Northwestern of Elizabeth City. Several games later came the upset of the season when the Commodores of lVlaury brought their forces to the Norview gym to battle with the Pilots. The outcome was a victory over the Commodores which had not been done in the past five years. The victory for the Pilots handed Maury their first loss in 9 outings. After the victory over IVlaury, the games were close, but the outcome never favored the Pilots. Credit should be given to Coach J. P. Brown and to the outstanding play of Wesley Stith, Elvin lVlcCauley, Don Johnson, Gene Brown, and Kevin Weller. These five players, plus the superior play from the bench, helped support the belief that Norview is Number One.
