This ls Norview S!- T' xi-Vg ' Ji ff, . : Norview School Building In The Early 1900's. A Community: Norfolk in the early years of the 1900's was a bustling community. The excellent harbors of the Chesapeake Bay had made Norfolk a thriving city, growing and expanding. World War I veterans began pushing out into the country , from the Norfolk city limits which, at this time were only what we now know as the downtown area. Due to the importance of the Ocean View, people began moving into that direction. They found the Norview area most suitable for settling since it was mid way be- tween Norfolk and the beaches of Ocean View. From these two places, Norview was named. The farmhouse at the top right corner com- prised the first Norview school building, serv- ing as the elementary, junior high and high school. Growing as it was, a new school build- ing was soon needed. In 1924 a new high school was built and that building serves as A School the Junior High School today. The farmhouse which stood on the sight was moved and con- tinued on as the elementary school. The build- ing we are presently in was built in 1952, mak- ing Norview the second newest high school in Norfolk. . As you can see Norview High School has come a long way since the old farmhouse and its first graduating class of two girls. Today we have a student body of 2,500, with modern chemistry and language labs and new equip- ment which complements our educational opportunities. Norview has a heritage we can be proud of, from the time our football teams were State champions in 1955 and 1959, to the time we were Eastern District Champs in 1969. Nor- view is unique, the very name, the very history, the very legacy. 70'
