Industrial Cooperative Training yy The Industrial Cooperative Training Program is a work program for juniors and seniors who do not plan to enter college. The Program provides on-the-job Mr. Philip Jaskowiak I.C.T. B.S., V.P.I. l.C.T. Club Distributive Education Distributive Education refers to vocational educa- tion for those engaged in distributing goods and serv- ices to the public, including all retail, wholesale and service occupations. Its purpose is to plrovide through vocational instruction for students so t at they will e prepared for profitable employment. Although the primary objective is to prepare youth for employment it also serves as a background for those who plan to continue business or retail courses in college. If an individual is to be efnciently prepared for profitable employment, he must be able to benefit from the training he receives. For this reason enrollees must meet the following qualifications: be in l0th, llth or l2th gradeg sixteen years of age or olderg be lawfully employed in the field of their training for an average of fteen hours per weekg and be able to benefit from the training. B.S., Madison, U.Va.. Ap- B.M., MA., Butler University, training in such fields as printing, auto-mechanics, Cosmetology, physical therapy, drafting, and many other similar occupations. The program involves a cooperative arrangement with community businesses and industries. They furnish part-time employment through which the student at- tains training under actual working conditions. The class instruction furnishes the technical subject material related to the job. YN? T he Music Department The purpose of the music department is to teach the fundamentals as well as the appreciation of mu- sic. Participants are encouraged to develop their tal- ent, but they are also taught to be a part of a large group. They then have time opportunity to display their talents at concerts and assemblies both in and out of the school and in inter-school competition. The student may choose from various fields pro- vided by the choral and band departments. Upon en- tering the choral group he is offered instruction in many fields including: Concert Chorusg All state Chorusg Mixed Chorusg Boys and Girls Chorusg and the selective Bakers Dozen and Bell Choir. All stu- dents would find enjoyment in the music apprecia- tion class offered. The band students are given the o portunity to ex- pand their musical scope, actin as both a marching and concert band member. Tie band department also sponsors the Majorette group.

Cheedeaders The Health and Physical Education Department of Norview High School is composed of nine staff members. Five men and four women. Each member ofthe depart- ment has a major in physical education. The department is divided so that girls are in health one week while the boys are in physical educationg the next week the classes alternate. This organization permits maximum use of all teaching stations by both boys and girls. An instructor is assigned to driver training. He is in charge ofthe multi car system used here at Norview, in which eivht cars are used with a student instructor and D. . . . three beginning students in each car. The instructor con- trols the cars by two way radios from a tower. The health department is designed so that there is no repetition of subject matter and the course of study is de- signed to give as much practical information to the stu- dent realizing that this will be the last opportunity for most ofthe students to secure health information for dai- ly living. Physical education classes are designed to in- crease strength and endurance of each pupil accordinv to his own physical capabilities and body make up and at the same time develop skills in activities which will carry over value for sports which can be enjoyed in later life.
