Key Club Biology lu Af X Mr. William Haskett Biology B.S., U.N.C., Wm. 8: Mary The purposes of the Science Courses are to provide students with a basic knowledge of, and a liking for the fundamental sciences of the natural world through the study of general science, biology, chemistry and physics. Courses are designed to meet future requirements of students who terminate their formal education at the high school level and for students who plan to enter college. In development of their objectives, the staff attempts: To train the student to think for himself. To develop his ability, to interpret his surroundings to himself, and to adapt them with greater ease to his needs. To create a desire to pursue scientific inquiry beyond the secondary level, eit er in a college or in everyday life. Biology, generally to tenth grade students, is the tradi- tional study of formal botany and Zoology. Emphasis is placed upon the understanding of life processes. Chemistry and Physics, are elective courses for juniors and seniors, primarily directed to students who desire to continue in fields of scientific study in college of industry. Chemistry provides students with a basic knowledge of the composition of matter through the study of the ele- ments of nature and with their inter-action. Ph sics pro- vides the student with a working knowledge of the funda- mental principles that describe all physical phenomena, of how they evolved, and their scope and limitations. Practical laboratory experiments and procedures in all courses are used to insure qualiiied students desiring to enter other scientific fields.
