English Department Every student is required to take three years of English. Three years in addition to those years already spent in the same subject might seem repetitiousg however the POTPOURRI of the English curriculum affords variety that appeals to all students. Included in the curriculum are the study of grammar, punctuation, spelling, vo- cabulary, and the mechanics of writing, training in written and oral composition of all types, and the study of all types of literature for the purpose of analysis, appreciation, and enrichment. These courses are arranged in a sequential program for students of all abilities at all levels. Thus, a student, regardless of his plans for the future, finds a complete applicability in his study of English. Varied electives - journalism, speech, drama and world literature provide for special interests of students and to afford outlets for stu- dent talent. Journalism students publish the Co-Pilot and the Pilot. Drama students present various dramatic productions, and the speech students utilize useful training. World Literature, a course especially beneiicial to college bound students, consists of a broad, representative study of the literature of the world. In addition to their subjects, students compete in numerous foren- sic events - drama, debating, public speaking, poetry and prose read- ing, and spelling. Students publish their creative writing in the liter- ary magazine, the Piloteer.
