.. Our school celebrates its 25th birthday The old farm house that served as the lirst Norview school building This is the pageant of a community and of a school. Amid the plowed field, under the sky where Indians roamed not too long ago, on the road where Civil VVar soldiers marched, and the families of VVorld XVar 'idoughboysu and G, T- .loes traveled a settlement was begun. A large two-story farmhouse was raised This was later the first Norview School. The location was destined to be a local point of interest, mainly because it was midway between Norfolk and Ocean View, from which two places Norview was named. It was also near one of the world's greatest seaports and from such things it grew. The first school building was soon needed. Wliztt we now call the main building was the second school and was meant to accommodate 300 students- The elementary children from the entire country moved into the old farmhouse, which had been on the school lot, but which was moved so that the foundation of our main building could be laid. Honesty, integrity, scholarship, leadership-these characteristics are the basic fundamentals in which Norview's ideals are rooted. This is our code in part, and with these thoughts the first graduating class, two girls transferred from Maury, began the last class of high school in 1924. Miss Mabel Kiracofe, now Principal of Coleman Place School, became our hrst principal. Mr. ll, C. Barnes was appointed principal in 1924, and served twenty-one years until he became Director of Instruction in Norfolk County Schools. He was succeeded by M r. li. XV. Chittum. From the beginning, students have loved Norview, and every year it has im' proved. lt was the students who made the traditions which we still carry out.

F ' - I Y..., Remembering its many successful years Early faculty members of Norview. Center is Miss Mabel Kiracofe who later became principal of Coleman l'lace School. The hrst class gift was two pictures. For several years the senior class has pre- sented a play in order to raise money for a class gift and it has become a tradition just as the Variety Show, junior-Senior Prom, Commencement programs, and magazine campaigns have become tradition. Now we have a stadium, improved auditorium, a beautiful campus, enlarged library, and new accessories in the school because of student participation in magazine sales, stage productions, contributions and campaigns. Always there were faculty members and the administration to help and guide Norviewites. Good Sportsmanship became a byword as the Pilots began earning cham- pionships in 1926 and l927. As the school grew, the Pilot's fame grew and good school spirit was developed. The enrollment grew and in 1939 the annex, in- cluding the cafeteria and fourteen classrooms was added. The annex became crowded, making the teachers shift of elementary grades still necessary. The main building completed in time for the l9Z4 school session.
