The 1 This volume is presented with the sincere and humble hope that in it you will find not only reminders ot the people and events that you have known but also evidences of the pride, strength, and understanding that is the spirit of Nortonville High School. The old and the new. . KCt DtTAi L • SOUTH NOPKinS COUNTY mOM SCHOOL- Published by the Senior Class NORTONVILLE HIGH SCHOOL NORTONVILLE, KENTUCKY DEDICATION We, the members of the Senior class of 1955, dedicate this annual, not to a person, but to an institution that we hold in high esteem. Let this institution speak: I am Nortonville High School Please stop a moment! I have something to say to you before we part forever. First of all. don't feel sorry for me because 1 am old and a little worse for wear. I have lived a full useful life for more than twenty years. But my usefulness is not over. I am only going to slow down and live a little less energetically as becomes one of my age. Sometime ago I overheard some men from the State Department of Education talking about a new South Hopkins High School. For a while I was afraid they were considering me for the job, but they decided that I could not be approved because I do not have the required amount of ground nor the necessary room for expansion. However, they did approve me as a Junior High School. Now that's a job I can take care of. I shall probably get my face lifted and feel young again. A little paint and plaster will do much to hide the scars of the past. With a smaller job to do I can grow old gracefully and have time to remember each happy bygone day. Sometimes I shall smile and sometimes I shall sigh as I think of you--as I remember the secrets that we shared, the heartaches we felt, the happiness we enjoyed. But most of all I shall remember moments of inspiration and devotion to great ideals. I shall be happy knowing that the job that was a little too big for me will be turned over to a larger stronger fellow who can offer our youth greater opportunities for growth and improvement. If we keep faith in God, in ourselves, and in humanity, we can approach the years ahead with confidence. 2 C. R. Harralson Principal Mr. Harralson received his A.B. degree from Western State College, Bowling Green, in 1929. He has done graduate work at Western and die University of Colorado. Mr. Harralson first came to Nortonville in 1935. He left after two years to serve as County Attendance Officer and later as Assistant County Superintendent. He returned to Nortonville as prin- cipalinl949. In 1954 he served in the Kentucky Leg- islature as Representative from Hopkins and Christian Counties. We started this season very slow- ly. winning our first game then dropping ten straight before we broke into the win column again. A team without heart, determination, and willingness to work would have quit long ago; but these boys have smiled at adversity, con- tinued to work hard and I know it is beginning to pay dividends. We have won four of our last six games and we figure to pick up several more wins this season. Next year with a summer's growth and a years experience these boys will be making their presence felt in Ken- tucky High School Basketball. I take my hat off to them. Without a doubt, it is the hardest working, most determin- ed team, and has better spirit than any group I have coached. Mike Holmes, pint-sized junior guard, does a wonder- ful job of keeping his younger and less experienced team-mates together. Out-standing prospects for next season are: Sophomores. Lanny and Danny Woodward. Gilbert Driver; Freshman. Cleatus Bowman and J. C. Gunn. Olando Wyman Coach Basketball Team A Team Cheerleaders: First row: Joan Sisk, Janice Butler. Carolyn Cavanaugh.
