1972 FOOTBALL TEAM mm This year, coming into a new league, the Lancers wanted to show everybody that they could play football and that they did. Pre-season practice looked good and the Lancers had a great team spirit Captains, Steve Crogan and Chuck Perry, led the team into the first game, a non-leaguer against Mansfield. Both teams were winless for a long time, but Mansfield emerged the victor in a tough 13-0 game. Then came the Lancer ' s first league game. Led by quarterback Lee Burchill and by running backs Chuck Perry and Scott Briggs, the Lancers shutout Diman Voke 28-0. After a 22-0 win over Southeast- ern Regional, the Lancers again came on strong against Old Rochester and won a decisive 14-6 victory. Norton then went against an undefeated Case High and came out on the short end of a 15-6 score. After an unfortunate accident to quarterback Lee Burc- hill, Dave Danko took over the pilot ' s job and along with the strong running of Chuck Perry led Norton to a 28-15 victory over Dighton-Rehoboth. The Lancers then travelled to Wareham for their first Friday night game against the league leaders. The Lancers played extremely well, but lost a tough one 6-0. After losing a non-leaguer to Dennis-Yar- mouth 8-0, Norton played to a scoreless tie with New Bed- ford Voke to end their season with a very respectable 4-4-1 record. Norton was led offensively by quarterbacks Burchill and Danko, running backs Stan Walasavage and Chuck Perry and wide receiver Bruce Hicks. Also, the offensive line did a good job, with Steve Crogan and Duke Zumalt the standouts. Zumalt was named to the Sun Chronicle All-Star Team at (•enter.
