NOIQTCDN, VIRGINIA 4 In fancy we recall those years now gone, Like feathery clouds departing far from view, To be' recaptured at tomorrow's dawn And reign once more within our hearts anew. The fleeting moments that have passed too soon Have left eternal mem'ries in each life, As melody composed to .haunting tune, Of schooldays we have shared 'mid joy and strife The faces of the mates we knew so well, Our feats of skill and thrills of vanished days, There is a chamber wherein each will dwell To off-er themes for countless future lays. Down in the corner of each student's heart Have been preserved those years of joyful glee g This wealth unto the world we may impart Through 'Tendrils , our mem'ry.book of forty three ,. , mx., Q X1 5 ul A.A. l fy, i bLA ' riff' ' ' +.A. r ,., e, g,. His slow movements and speech only added to his- attractiveness, Ed. note: Leonard joined the armed forces in January. FERNIA MARIE BARRETT Marie has the good fortune of being blessed with a sort of exotic beauty which makes her dark loneli- ness such a rare ornament in our classroom. She has found a place in all of. our hearts, for each time we looked into those dark eyes, they laughed with us. ERNEST CLAUDE BAKER Sagacious and dependable, Ernest is a true friend and a likeable classmate. Though quiet and placid, his presence assures us of his fidelity and trustworthi- ness. In the classroom we find him meek, but, when in a group of boys, he often becomes talkative and jocular. ss . V K. M mmsgilsggm ,. E I CHARLES ALEXANDER BLEVINS Charles is a confirmed nature-lover, constantly talking about the great outdoors . He is a good sport, believing in fair play, and is always ready to take a chance. His ready wit is a source of enter- tainment to his large circle of friends. Q .JUNE LA PAYE BILLINGS Vivacity, felicity. and joviality are the fascina- ting qualities which are embodied in the personality of June. All that ever was joyous and clear, and fresh, her laughter doth surpass. WILLIAM PERKINS BLEVINS Honesty, good sportsmanship, and friendliness are Bill's chief attributes. He'll be remembered by all as one of Norhi's best football captains and as a member of the All-County football team for three successive years. Ed. note: Bill joined the armed forces in Janu- ary. sn s MARGARET LoU1sE Bocas me Marg reflects her charming personality in her ready smile. She is industrious and persistent in all undertakings, even those which others have cast aside as hopeless. All these qualities mold an eternal niche for her in our reveries of high school companions. GLENN FOUST GILLENWATER Glenn, the fiist of the class of '43 to join the armed forces, had a sly engaging smile, and helped to relieve the monotony of schoolroom life by offer- ing many humorous jokes. With no means of securing equipment, no means of transportation, and no fixed schedule, the girls -still managed to play a few games. During the short season an average of fifteen reported for practice, the greater number of which were inexperienced. However, led by Captain Green's scoring and the untiring fighting spirit of Louise Hensley, the girls were able to offer suiiicient competition to keep the games interesting and show possibilities for a well-rounded team.
