An integral part of the Norton school scene, the Torch, provides us with a common meeting ground for all activities, both scholastic and extra-curricular. Once a month, students eagerly await the latest news of meetings, dances, parties, and sports contests. Here also can be found examples of some of the best creative writing that Nortorrs authors turn out. XVorking on the Torch staff gives future newsmen practice in writing accurately and well, doing art work, and experiencing business management. lt is a line organiza- tion and is heartily backed by the student body. FUTURE TEA CHERS OF AMERICA The Future Teachers of America Club at Norton has been most active since l955 with Miss Sherman as its advisor. The club is open to any boy or girl in the ninth through twelfth grades who is interested in teaching as a career. .Iunior and senior members are given the opportunity to prac- tice teaching in the Norton school system. This teaching experience is an important factor in helping the student to detide whether or not to be a teacher. Members may earn pins by collecting one hundred points. They remeiye points lor teaching, assisting teac hers, grading papers, and yari- ous other activities. 'lille pins are awarded to members who have earned them at the annual spring banquet. liach year the I .
