Merllee Hermanson Bonme Reyerson and Jumor Johnson were new comers to our second grade We would always look forward to our m1d mornmg snack of mxlk and graham crackers 1n thxs grade Th1s year our teacher was M1ss Bortz In thlrd grade MISS Schnorz took all readlng pr1v1leges away from Sh1rley Bassett for readmg whrle she was supposed to be taking a spell1ng test The new comers thls year conslsted of Elleen Dralla from Pennsylvama and Arlene Godfrey M1ss Moss was our fourth grade teacher Geral dme Mosby V1rg1n1a Soderberg Duane and Dawone Hanna were new comers The WIDS b1rthday was on Aprll Fool s Day and therr mother brought two cakes to school One was a popcorn ball cake and the other one vuas a de11C10l.lS whlte cake That day Kathryn Nesset was a naughty g1rl and had to stay after school But she got the best deal because she got to fmrsh up the rest of the cake Add1t1ons to the gang ln f1fth grade were Ann Montgomery Sh1rley LaCour Rlchard Tuttle Caro lyn Russell Mrldred Weaver and Ardean Hansrng At the close of the day our teacher Mrs Frlnk would always tell us what book we would have to take home to study Now we are m Jumor Hlgh and are as proud Kalx lg Jomed us thls year Wlth our teachers M1ss Jurvens M1ss Mellem and M1ss Tosdal Marvelyn Wolff and Exleen Dralla Jomed us m our second year of Jumor Hxgh Kathryn Nesset part1c1pated m the Worth County spell1ng contest and was one of the f1!'l31lStS In our thrrd year of Jumor H1gh Esther Olson Della Turvold Adrlanne Van Sabben Donnabell Tonga LaVerne Lexdal Soma Osmund son Jamce Rasmussen Kelth Olson and George Stolz Jolned us Durmg these years we had two other teachers Mr Robert V1nge who went 1nto servlce and Mr Dean Mulford In 1951 we entered NHS to begm our career of pmk shps and detentxon New class mates Jo1n1ng us were Roger Hagerud Mary Johnson Peggy Krxkava Marhn Llljedahl Kenneth Logemann Rosalyn Monnahan Nancy Monnahan Marllyn Nelson LuVern Oakland Marilyn Pedersen Donna Gulhckson Maman Reyerson Norma Seater Ar della Senne Karen Groe Marllyn Severson La Donna Slebrecht Wanda Stehn David Stevens Paul We1r J amce Carlson and Audrey Kuhlmann Th1s IS the year that LaDonna Sxebrechf rece1ved her mckname of Poochv because she had to be a dog at 1n1t1at1on Our queen candldate LaDonna Grundmeler Hatchery-Complete Poultry Servlce Hagen was chosen as rexgnmg queen We shall always remember the day that we made soup 1n Miss Sellecks Home Econonucs class Mr Bolle was our pr1nc1pal thxs year Patty Stoffregen Jolned us 1n our Sophomore Year Mr Clme came back thls year from the Marmes and took over as pI'lY1C1pa1 of NHS Whlle attendmg a state speech contest at Shenandoah Mary Johnson came down wxth measles and spent three days lsolated ln a hotel room She stlll gave her speech though by recordmg xt on a tape re corder Gerry Mosby our Homecommg candldate was crowned Homecommg queen of 1952 We all remember the good tune we had at our skatlng party 1n Albert Lea Wxth our Jumor year came many excxtmg mo- ments Bexng an upperclassman was of great 1m portance It brought about our Jun1or play which was Our M1ss Brooks dxrected by Mrs Adela Salveson Who could forget Norma standmg on a chair throwlng soap flakes supposedly represent mg snow and shoutxng the storm IS raglng SonJa Osmundson made a fxne record m speech work by w1nn1ng a 1 ratlng ln dramatlc declamat1on and or1g1nal oratory Our float th1s year wlth the theme Smgmg to Vlctory won f1rst place The theme of our banquet wh1ch was held at the Masomc Tem by both the Jumors and Senlors followed It at the Country Club Judy Mellem was our Home commg queen candldate Senrors at last' We have flnally reached our goal w1th a lot of hard work and fun along the way Our class candxdate Songa Osmundson was the 1954 Homecommg queen In the fall of 1954 one of our class mates Judy Mellem had an accl dent whlch kept her rn bed for four months Dur mg th1s tlme she went to school by the means of a telephone commumcatlon system Norrxs Julson almost broke the basketball scoring record for one game by gettmg the total of 44 poxnts Karen Groe rece1ved an award as the Home Maker of Tomor row for Northwood I-hgh School On Aprll 7 w took a Jaunt to MIIIDBHPOIIS for our Sklp day thls trlp we made some tours and attended e Ice Follles rn the evening Now at the end of our career there are 46 xn our class Of the 22 that started together there are st1ll mne of us as class mates Durmg these tlurteen years we have lost sxx One entered the nuhtary serv1ce one started her career early and four have marrled The rest of us are now ready for our careers Page 9 , y . . , . .
